jaapv Posted March 22, 2010 Share #21 Posted March 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) With Photokina just 6 months away, I'd wait to see what, if anything, Leica offer in the way of a fixed, lets-get-it-right-the-second-attempt version. I'm still more than happy with my M8u's and wish I hadn't bought an M9 but instead waited for Leica to do it right. Maybe they'll offer an upgrade
Advertisement Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Keep my M8.2 or sell it and buy an M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Redridge Posted March 22, 2010 Share #22 Posted March 22, 2010 I would be tempted to buy the M9 but keep the M8.... crop sensors have its benefits. I keep a full frame and a crop sensor DSLR's.... Crop sensors are great for the extra reach if you just want to use straight out of the camera work....
jaapv Posted March 22, 2010 Share #23 Posted March 22, 2010 How that? the pixel pitch of the M8 and M9 is identical. So you can crop an M9 image down to 1.33 and end up with an 10 Mp image like the M8. No gain there. Straight out of the camera is pretty rare - I have yet to hear from anybody who prints straight of the SD card.
Redridge Posted March 22, 2010 Share #24 Posted March 22, 2010 I hear you.... but this debate about crop vs full frame can be endless.... Do you think that if you crop an M9 image to the size of an M8..... the image will be identical IQ? As for as I know the center of the lense is the sharpest point of the image.... no? jaapv Posted March 22, 2010 Share #25 Posted March 22, 2010 The M9 might be marginally better due to the small changes in the sensor (microlenses and bayer filter), but yes, it will be identical, you sue the identical angle of view of the lens when cropping. The IQ would differ if the pixel pitch would differ, which is often the case with other brands, where the smaller sensor may have denser pixels due to marketing reason, resulting in a higher resolution, but lower quality comparing a cropped FF image to a cropped sensor. However, between the M8 and M9 this is not the case.
