One thread one bug -- shutoff while reviewing

I'm still finding that the auto shutoff time that I select is not allowing me to review pictures on the LCD with pauses between changing frames that are shorter than the shutoff time. I set the shutoff to 1 min, and review pictures for a minute or two, with no more than 5-10 seconds between button presses, and then suddenly the camera shuts down.

What are others seeing?

PS Just this one possible bug belongs in this thread. OK?

I see the same thing.

It seems to me that it is only the shutter release button that resets the auto power off timer.

The camera then shuts of after the set time, regardless of which other buttons that have been activated in the meantime.

Best regards

Yep, this phenomenon has been discussed at length before. I guess this one should be simple bug to fix (in 1.117 perhaps?), one just has to make sure the timer gets reset each time a button is pressed.

The thread in which this was reported had been hijacked by the red edge debate, and was further confused by the blinking red LEDs, which may only happen in some cameras if it really a bug. I wanted to make sure this one is visible to the poor souls in Solms who try to follow our complaints.

Since apparently it has been established that auto shut off happens exactly as set, whether you are reviewing images or not, surely the simple solution is just to increase the time that you set for auto shut off? Try 2 minutes or 5 minutes? I would think that reviewing would influence battery life more than a slightly longer auto off setting? I don't understand why you feel it important to have that auto shut off set to 1 minute only.

Better yet, simply switching the camera off between shooting of course negates any concerns regarding battery life from a too long auto off period.

Nothing against reviewing as much as you wish of course. It is a much smoother and improved process with the new firmware.

Geoff,

as long as I'm operating on the camera either reviewing on setting uo the menù the camera should not go into the sleeping mode, same as when i'm shooting.

I know that I can set up the time for auto shut off to 5 or 10 minutes oe even to "never" but this is not the best solution and has other drawbacks.

Having said that, I agree that this is not a major issue and that we can find some temporary workaround as described above, nevertheless i believe that it is a bug and I hope that with the next FW will be corrected.

Cheers,

Ario

You're right of course, Michael, but how can a bug which is so easy to find possibly have got through even the most rudimentary test? Perhaps someone should tell Leica (or Jenoptik or whoever) that you test, test and test a new release and when you think everything is fine, you test some more.

Is anyone telling Leica or are we relying on them finding this thread by accident?

I think Leica already has been told and is looking into it. Yes, it is odd such an obvious bug crept through. Maybe some last-minute fix for something else turned out to have unexpected repercussions (which nobody noticed since they all had auto power off turned off).
