grober Posted March 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 17, 2010 Got mine from Dale Photo in Florida. (Shipped to me via UPS yesterday.) They have received a few from New Jersey but are still working off their existing X1 waiting list. Thanks to Dale Photo's David & Julie for extrordinary Leica knowledge and service! -g

jpmac55 Posted March 18, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2010 Anyone seen a place that is selling them yet? (I'm not interested in the voigtlander one). I know you're not interested in the Voigtlander 35 VF but for others reading this thread, it's a pretty good alternative. Also available in black or silver. Mine is silver, sorta blends in with the top of the X1.
grober Posted March 19, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Leica 36mm viewfinder arrived via UPS today. It's bright and clear just like you'd expect from any Leica optical product and I'm glad I ordered it from my Leica dealer (last November!) The unit comes packed in a small suede bag inside a typical silver-black Leica box. BUT I have to admit, after using the X1 for two weeks without the v/f, I find that I'm OK without mounting the v/f. I'm thinking that I'll carry it and use it as a discrete framing device before I "whip" out the camera and record the photo. Hey, just thinking out of the box here . . . -g
jsrockit Posted March 19, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted March 19, 2010 Grober, have you tried using your X1 in bright direct sunlight? You can't see the LCD in these situations. This is the only reason I'm buying an external VF.
alexc Posted March 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 20, 2010 Grober, have you tried using your X1 in bright direct sunlight? You can't see the LCD in these situations. This is the only reason I'm buying an external VF. this is very true. I just got back from sunny st. martin and the only issue with x1 was using it in direct sunlight. I was shooting sunsets and VF would help a lot. just placed an order.
damnsharp Posted March 20, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 20, 2010 For an image how the Voightlander 35mm silver looks on an X1 look at my self portrait dated yesterday Blipfoto :: DamnSharp with Leica X1 :: 19 March 2010 I like the VF very much, not only on sunny days
nippa Posted March 20, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 20, 2010 The Leica dealer in West Palm Beach had one for sale last week. I looked at it but decided not to buy as it's much cheaper in the UK and I'm still trying to get a BODY. I was told that there are two versions of the finder - the cheap Japanese one that I saw last week and a more expensive German made version. I'd never heard of that before. jsrockit Posted March 20, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted March 20, 2010 I was told that there are two versions of the finder - the cheap Japanese one that I saw last week and a more expensive German made version. I'd never heard of that before. There is only one version of the Leica VF for the X1. Outside of that, there are a few others made by other manufacturers ... Japanese companies included. They are only cheap in price, not in quality.
nippa Posted March 20, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 20, 2010 Something odd here. The Genuine VF said " made in Japan" and it was boxed correctly. The Genuine Battery also says "made in Japan assembled in Vietnam" As this dealership was set up in association with Leica Gmbh in November I can't believe that I wasn't looking at the real thing. Having said that I thought the viewfinder not up to the optical quality of that for the DLux4.
grober Posted March 20, 2010 Share #14 Posted March 20, 2010 Grober, have you tried using your X1 in bright direct sunlight? You can't see the LCD in these situations. You're right. We finally had a sunny day around here yesterday. The unit with its Leica 36mm finder attached works well; I'm glad I bought the Leica v/f and not another. When you inform the camera (through a menu option) that the viewfinder is installed, it turns the monitor off but leaves the small green LED at the bottom corner of the screen illuminated. This is an indicator that the camera is on and ready to go even though you can't see any image on the screen. -g
