For my taste, the first two are almost there -- They are just a bit washed out. #3 though is super as it stands with its lovely composition, wide tonal range, and splitting the image diagonally with the ironworks.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Ian, as far as I can tell it has exactly the same lens as the FZ-30 which I recently parted with; I was very happy with the images from that lens. I've not had much chance to test out the V-Lux yet due to weather/time, etc; it feels noticably "less loose" than my FZ lens, image quality seems fine, I think there were small raindrops on the filter of shot #2, which does not help against the light!

One thing which takes some getting used to is the manual focus action, the focus ring just goes round and round, rather than a conventional manual focus which rotates between stops; I really disliked this with the FZ but I guess I've got used to it now. I have set it to greatly magnify the subject when focussing manually but still get it wrong sometimes. I just wish it were like the excellent manual focus on my D2.

The optical magnification runes from equivalent 35mm to 420mm using 10m pixels but if you set it down to 3mp it just uses the centre of the image, which could be useful and gives an acceptable quality and a very, very, long focal length without having to carry a length of drainpipe around with you. I'll test this fully when time permits.

Hope this is of use,

Cheers,

Pete.
