Damaged file?

During the taking of just one of my shots yesterday, there appeared to be a flash in the viewfinder and then it took a good minute or so for the info to be transfered to the card. Now in lightroom, it says on just that shot, ''The file appears to be unsupported or damaged''

I wonder if anyone can tell me what might have happened, the picture was taken in normal light and the lens cap was off!

Thanks

Lucy

Well, Lucy, for one thing the viewfinder is wholly unconnected to the electronics that have to do with writing the image and any flash you may see will come from outside, so this, disregarding more esoteric explanations like an UFO emitting a ray of electromagnetic force, is very likely to remain an unexplained one-off.

Lucy--

Has your M8 ever been repaired?

I had a similar problem about a year after the M8's introduction, but several times (as well as other problems). It was under warranty; Leica replaced some electronics (I think this is when T2 was replaced), and the problem hasn't recurred.

In your case, this is probably a one-off, as Jaap said. If it happens again, you might want to check with Leica.

My best advice--which I don't always follow myself--is to be sure not to turn the camera off while the rear LED is blinking. The camera should complete the card write before shutting down, but in my case I think it sometimes shut down in the middle of the card write.

Also, I assume you're using the latest firmware, right?

Hello....

I got my M8 new last june and have had no problems at all except for this little blip, hopefully it was just a strange occurance but it's good to know that i still have quite a bit of warranty left. I tend to leave the camera on while i have it on me, out of habit and for the reason you mention.Yes, i have the latest firm ware.

I used my camera quite a bit today and it was fine,

Thankyou for your help.

Lucy

Lucy, it does sound like a one-off occurrence.

Your camera is likely from the latest batch and will have the latest electronics.

Sorry if I offended by asking such questions. I was just trying to uncover any possible snags that hadn't been mentioned.

I am really grateful for any help and suggestions i get here and to be offended by suggestions, however simple is just daft.

Thankyou lots

Lucy
