Wonder if I have company...

Can the X1 give me better files for enlargement, printing than using Velvia 100 scanned with a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED? Assuming, of course, that scan was done optimally and shot with X1 exposed properly?

I have considered the M9 -- but sooo expensive. I would never sell my MP, but it WOULD be nice, I think, to shoot digitally, too.

It would SEEM that the MP and the X1 might be a good combo.

Anyone else out there thinking this way...or not?

andalus, I think you would be agreeably surprised with the quality match posed in your question. I am still using my M6 and scan with an identical instrument, albeit with older transparencies. I haven't had time to carry out a precise comparison, but will do so in slow time.

You are right to consider the two cameras complementary to each other, although each is fully capable in its own right. The advantage of the X1 is that it is more likely to be with you in many circumstances where photography is not the main reason for leaving home for shopping etc.

Thanks for your reply. Nice to think I don't have to get the M9 and that the X1 will suffice, and just be a nice addition, complimentary camera. Well, as you know, it would be hard to sell the MP I've got for an M9, cause I would certainly miss its reliability, no fuss operation.

I think it would be a great combo. If you like film better than digital and you only want to dable in digital, the X1 seems like a perfect choice.
