Any truth in this rumour?

I have heard today from someone who has always been a reliable source of information (granted, this is usually regarding Canon and Nikon fodder) that there are strong rumours that the X1 may have been designed by Nikon! I was very dubious about this, however, there are suggestions (thus far, unfounded) that Nikon's own version of the X1 may appear as next week, instead of the replacement for the P6000.

I've never heard this before (and am not really too bothered either way), but am curious, none the less. Anyone else heard this rumour before? First time for me...

That particular rumor started months ago, but there was never much substance to it. The line of reasoning (if one can call it that) went like this: The X1 uses a Sony sensor, Nikon uses Sony sensors as well, probably including the very model of sensor that is employed in the X1, so Nikon must have something to do with it. Not exactly logically sound, that conclusion.

My "source" ( lol ) has qualified his statement saying "Sunil Kaul (regional director of Asia Pacific for Leica Camera AG) that said an upcoming Nikon camera will use the exact same sensor as the X1. The argument goes that for him to know that with any certainty would require knowledge stemming from a collaborative project.".

As said above though - probably best to suck it and see...

I also heard from a reliable source that Nikon made the X1 way back when it was announced. That doesn't mean there own branded version will look the same. On the other hand, Nikon may have addressed many of the problems as they are likely to be far more competent on firmware development.
