What's the case against using LTM lenses on an M8?

On the Summitar: there was a Summitar to standard 39mm adapter. You could also get a Summitar type "A" filter and pop the glass to make something.

Yeah, I don't think I stand much chance of finding the adapter at a reasonable price. Nor am I handy enough to replace the filter glass.

You might find that you have to use adapter rings (step-up type) on some non Leica lenses to use the uv/ir cut filter that will be wanted because of the colour shift from Leica not putting an IR filter on the sensor

 

Looking at my Summaron 35/3.5 LTM, I do not see filter threads. I use it, but not for scenes where an IR filter is advisable.

Concerning the ability to encode the adapters with six bits code, a forum member John Milich produced at a time LTM adapters with the correct recesses ready to be painted. You could send him a mail to see if he still producing them (you will find the address by searching the M8 forum;) ).

Charles, some screw-mount lenses used push-on filters. Getting UV/IR-Cut filters for them would indeed be a hassle.

 

There's probably a pressure-fit step-up ring available, but probably not worth the effort involved.

JM still makes them (in machined brass), to the best of my knowledge.

Yes, it uses the "old" A36 clamp-screw pressure filters : but the adapter to fit on it the std. E39 filters is all but rare (SOOGZ - 13154 - from a quick search on ebay I found several, one offered at 15$...). To be noticed that it allows also to use onto it several std. hoods.

Hi

 

You dont always need an IR filter, but you can have a damaged glass summitar filter ring glass removed and replaced with a UV/IR glass.

 

The adapter is 1m thick and the LTM lenses are 1mm shorter so there is not actually a size difference, in identical lenses.

 

Since preferable you wont want to use a '50's lens wide open focus problems if they existed will be less at /5.6... you need to be using a tripod to detect this, the smaller M8 sensor will stress the of axis performance less.

 

The older LTM lenses are all simgle coated or even uncoated so there is a different color signature and mono from the lower contrast, it is like painting with water colors.

 

You can get Sonnar style lenses in LTM, e.g. J8 for pennies in street markets, or bring and buy sales..Some peoplelike the J8 'Sonnar style' signature...

 

It you need a 12mm think you need the CV LTM 12mm.

 

The adapters can be coded without alterig (>>$) a collectible lens.

 

A Barnack or clone is cheap and a real nice camera.
