JBC Posted February 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I am new to M system, I have an M8 and CV 21f4 for 3 months now. My question is if I should have the lens coded, or if I just use it without the coding. I also use the setting in "lens detection off". I personally like the pictures I am getting, but I like to know if with the coding or other setting, i can get even better resutls. thank you all. Advertisement Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi JBC, Take a look here CV 21f4 + m8, coding?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted February 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2010 If you like your pictures that is fine, but you really should use an IR/UV filter for best results and in that case your lens MUST be coded.
JBC Posted February 28, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 28, 2010 thank you. I do use a IR filter on the lens all the time. Apart form the Magenta issue, does using the IR filter also has some requirements for coding? thanks
jaapv Posted February 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2010 Yes. As soon as there is IR light about, you will get cyan drift towards the corners. You can either code the lens or use Cornerfix.
stonearabiapix Posted February 28, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 28, 2010 Cornerfix? I also have this lens and coded it with Bo Lorentzens' coder.(thank-you Bo) The camera reads the code as a 28mm although the results are better than without any coding. But I am always looking for better. Tim The Classic Image

Tim The Classic Image Shouldn't this lens be coded as an Elmarit 21mm though as per ?:- Leica M Lens Codes

stonearabiapix Posted March 1, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 1, 2010 I'm not the OP, but I've been helped tremendously through this thread. I've downloaded cornerfix, and will try coding the lens as a WATE. Thanx to all Tim
