It is very simple. The Summicron is the best 2.0-50 there is and the Summilux asph is the best 1.4-50 there is, so it depends on what you need/want/are willing to pay... The older Summiluxes are marginally behind this, but have great character.

Anyone have any idea when any new 50 Summilux - ASPH are going to be in stock? I have been waiting months for one. My 50 Summicron is the sharpest and most reliable lens that I own, but I would love to own a Summilux as well one of these days. Anyone have any insight as to why a company like Leica would suffer such severe shortages of sought after equipment? It's kind of ridiculous….

Couldn't have said it better myself. The Summilux ASPH has a tab and has a stiffer focus action most likely due to less space and floating elements in there.
