mobeyone Posted February 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any experiences of the two on the 8? and what do people prefer? I have heard the coating can be an issue on early examples of both the lux and cron? is this correct? And does anyone have any photos for comparisons? Advertisement Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi mobeyone, Take a look here 50mm summilux vs 50m summicron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted February 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2010 It is very simple. The Summicron is the best 2.0-50 there is and the Summilux asph is the best 1.4-50 there is, so it depends on what you need/want/are willing to pay... The older Summiluxes are marginally behind this, but have great character.
mobeyone Posted February 28, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 28, 2010 What does the extra stop mean in terms of performance between the two? is there much that separates them?
jaapv Posted February 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2010 It gathers more light, but more importantly it creates less DOF, so your subject is more isolated.

joshtpa Posted February 28, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone have any idea when any new 50 Summilux - ASPH are going to be in stock? I have been waiting months for one. My 50 Summicron is the sharpest and most reliable lens that I own, but I would love to own a Summilux as well one of these days. Anyone have any insight as to why a company like Leica would suffer such severe shortages of sought after equipment? It's kind of ridiculous…. The Summilux ASPH has a tab and has a stiffer focus action most likely due to less space and floating elements in there.
