Mauribix Posted March 2, 2010 Share #41 Posted March 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I sometimes wonder if all of you asking for a chrome version do also drive these cars with huge chrome wheels ? Seriously, the chrome M versions were absolutely beautiful, but I do feel that Leica did well to replace it with that new grey version. It just fits better the colors and designs of our times. If only the grey paint wouldn't come off so easily... My silver M8s were absolutely wonderful (as they were the first day I got 'em) till I sold 'em after 3 years... My grey M9 after 1 week looked like my father's black paint M3 after 45years of fair use... BTW, I don't care about it anymore. Everything's already been said about that inglorious paint. Advertisement Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Hi Mauribix, Take a look here Black or grey?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 2, 2010 Share #42 Posted March 2, 2010 Strangely enough the black coating is amazingly resilient. It keeps up better than the silver chrome on my M8s.

Could you please post a picture of your M9? It would be very intresting to see how it is aging.
jamriman Posted March 9, 2010 Share #44 Posted March 9, 2010 I have a black one and just saw a gray one for the first time. I just loved it. Wish I had waited. I'm tempted to put a WTT ad up. Too bad the paint is thin though. One reason to stick with my black one. Never satisfied as always....
markpsf Posted March 9, 2010 Share #45 Posted March 9, 2010 The M3 all black is one of the most sought after Leicas. The original Leica was all black with the chrome offered as the deluxe only version. I have the all black M9. I think it's classy. And if the grey had been all chrome I still might have preferred it; for some reason it does have more of an old fashioned look. But I don't like the grey paint. Ed_K Posted March 10, 2010 Share #46 Posted March 10, 2010 Please correct me if i got it wrong, think i read here somewhere that they "enhance" the grey paint to make it more resilient at the latest production, true?

It would be very intresting to see how it is aging. I second that. I would very much like to see the effects of wearing because I'm on a waiting list for a grey M9. I don't mind signs of use after months or years of use but I don't want 5500€ camera to look like crap after few days of use.
