dennersten Posted February 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got a message from the camerastore. They can give me a M9 tomorrow if i can accept a grey (i ordered a black) after just three weeks waiting. Goods now how long time it takes to get a black one. The thing that worries me is that on the pictures of the grey m9 it looks like the same slippery cover as on the M8. Is that right? Are there any more arguments for and against a grey M9? Advertisement Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Hi dennersten, Take a look here Black or grey?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AGeoJO Posted February 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 27, 2010 It is just a matter of preference. Both my M8, which I already sold, and my current M9 are grey, the way I ordered it. I love that distinctive and dare I say it, classy, look of a grey body. I also have two chrome lenses which look better on a grey body than on a black body. Good luck! Revdockj Posted February 27, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2010 I have (and continue to use) a black M8 and a steel grey M9. Yes, the covering is about the same. However, I use a Luigi half-case--so the covering doesn't matter to me. I wanted the steel grey M9. I know it's not chrome, but it has that classic Leica look. I love it. stevem7 Posted February 27, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 27, 2010 Id take the grey, which is what I wanted originally. I love my black, but the grey is nice. Wish I could afford one of each
markpsf Posted February 27, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 27, 2010 Just ordered the black but told them that if a grey comes in first I'd be very happy with it. I also will have the X1 and its grey so I figured it would be good to have them different. If it was real chrome like the M8 it might have tipped the scale towards the grey. I just like the all black one with the red logo against the black. They're both beautiful to me though. Mark

noah_addis Posted February 27, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's an expensive camera you'll hopefully use for years, so unless you need it for an upcoming assignment, I'd advise waiting a little longer to get what you really want. Now when it comes to figuring out what you want...only you can decide. I like the black personally.
Anguish Posted February 27, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 27, 2010 I turned down a grey one. Still waiting.
Benjoe Posted February 27, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 27, 2010 Here are some pics from my gray M9, I found it difficult to make the decision between blak & gray looking at the manipulated catalog images of limited perspective. Picture were shot with an M8 (not manipulated) hope that helps:) (the 50mm Summilux in the pictures is the titan version;) (not silver chrome)) Oh.. nearly forget.. from my experience you might get a few more looks from people, sometimes trying to figure what you are doing with such an old fashioned looking camera. The advantage on the other hand might be that no one would ever think of nicking that camera. With the black it is not that obvious on the first glance. Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted February 27, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 27, 2010 If you don't like the covering, changing it for something to your taste from Cameraleather is very easy. It won't affect your guaranty either.

Jose_Salcedo Posted February 27, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 27, 2010 I also suggest to take the gray model. That is what I have and love it.

jaapv Posted February 27, 2010 Share #14 Posted February 27, 2010 Not the M9. I like the Vulcanite of the black version. But I have recovered my M8s a number of times. It took me less than 15 minutes each time. One of them still wears grey kid leather. The other one was BR green Calfskin leather. Very nice, but I had to send it to Leica because of a mishap, and they were so sorry they had to take off the leather that they gave it Vulcanite for free. I might add that the leather coverings of Morgan fit at least as well as those of Leica. The tolerance cannot be more than 1/10th of a mm. CameraLeather.com Custom camera leather and leatherette Now see what you have done... I was perfectly happy with my M9 - now I have seen all Morgan's beautiful stuff once more... Must resist! andreaffm Posted February 28, 2010 Share #15 Posted February 28, 2010 Same with me. Wanted black, got grey. But I found the leather not as slippery as on the M8. Not as rubbery. Have a look at it, give it a chance. Now that I have it, I like mine,
Jeff S Posted February 28, 2010 Share #16 Posted February 28, 2010 That BR green sounded weird...until I saw the pic, with chrome. Damn. Jeff
Ed_K Posted February 28, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 28, 2010 Both versions are beautiful; come to think about it, vendors usually have more black than grey, rather than the other way round .... interesting chance i'll say

dennersten Posted February 28, 2010 Author Share #19 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi,take the gray one just look how nice it is: It looks really nice! I am a little curious about the shade/nuance, how wold you describe it? In Benjoes pictures it looks like the old chrome m8, but on Jareks pictures it looks grey. How does it look compared with the titanium gray? Yes i am seeing it tomorrow afternoon. But i want to know now! :-)
robert-gregory Posted February 28, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 28, 2010 I would have taken either with maybe a slight preference to black because I know when it starts to get used the brass/black look has nice contrast and a certain elegance to it. As it turned out black was the camera that came for me and the M9 black paint looks great, almost a flat black chrome look to it, not glossy like some of the black paint of previous versions of Leica black paint. I also have an MP in the anthracite gray paint. Don't know if the M9 gray is similar, the anthracite is a medium gray but takes on a sparkle in some light. There is just a hint of black primer under-coat where the gray is wearing. New it looks very nice, especially with chrome lenses, but am curious if the gray M9 will age in an 'odd way' over time. Now if the M9 would have been offered in real chrome...
