I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation about which Pradovit projector to buy? I've seen various models - 150, 300, 600 & 253 advertised. I want to at long last see my (very) old slides - mixture of cardboard and plastic mounts as well as the latest ones from my III F and M3. Also any suggestion of which lens to aim for. luigi bertolotti Posted February 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 27, 2010 I used to have a Pradovit 150 (sold it years and years ago) : was my only projector so haven't any comparision... can only say it worked fine for home use; the typical good lens for standard home size environments is the Colorplan 2,5. sulskyr Posted March 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2010 I own a Leica 253IR (circa 1995) and a Pradovit 250 (circa 1970). The 250 is built like a tank and has needed only a few maintenances in 40 years. The 253IR is cheaply built, jammed constantly and is now in non-working condition. If I were you, I would find an older unit, spend what it takes to put into good working order and enjoy the slide shows. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
jpattison Posted March 2, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 2, 2010 I'd suggest finding a Pradovit 2502, it can project standard mounted slides and LKM mounted slides. It pre-warms the slide to avoid "popping" where focus is sharp in the centre, but not at the corners/edges until the slide warms in the gate, and then pops into shape, requiring re-focussing. Can annoy viewers! Don't buy a curved field lens, the standard Colorplan 90 f2.5 is superb, you can buy a "pro" version of this lens. Beware that certain lenses have mounts for specific projectors! Checkland Posted March 2, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 2, 2010 I have the 150 bought it for around £50 as a cheap but good projector for home and it certainly does the job, I suppose it depends on how much you want to spend, I'm not too sure what the quality differences were so opted for the cheapest Leica one I could get with the thought that I could upgrade later if I used it a lot. I hunted for one for two years, then scored a mint one for $600 on ebay. Was thinking of getting a second one for dissolves but have not seen another one since.
