Are they the same - Lens Detection "Off", and "On" but uncoded Lens

I am sure many of the Leicanauts here have both coded and uncoded lenses in their inventory. The M8 has Lens detection options for "On", "ON + UV/IR", and "Off".

 

I am wondering if the M8 firmware will respond in the same way (without image correction) if Lens Detection is set to "Off" for any mounted lens, or if it is set to "On" with a non-coded lens.

 

If the responses are the same for both situations, then there is no need to turn it to "Off" position, and save me some hassle as I sometimes forgot to turn it to "ON" when I changed form an uncoded to a coded lens. I just need to set it to "On" all the time.

 

Would appreciate if someone can comment on this.

Some lenses - like for instance an Elmarit 28 of an older generation- might be read incorrectly by the camera. (in this case as a 90 mm lens)

Some lenses have screws where the 6 bit code is. Even though the lens isn't coded, the camera may read the screw as a code.

 

Leica suggest turning off lens detection in these situations.
