Lens Threads Purpose

Michael, welcome to the forum.

The only threads I see are on inside of the lens mount, not on the lens front mounting itself. If we are talking about the same feature, I believe the threads - or more likely serrations - are to provide a retention surface for the lens cap grips.

The X1 has an outside ring on its lens, with groowe on its circumference, wery much like the Dlux4, that when you grab it can be unscrewed fom the lens. On the Dlux4 those threads are used to attach some additional lenses. Funny that Leica itself never came out with any lenses etc for the Dlux4. And now they did it again on the X1. If my memory serves me well, I recall something mentioned by Leica in September or October last year that it is for future attachments. Never elaborated further.

Michael, welcome to the forum.

Thanks:) I've definitely enjoyed the discussions, very lively, detailed and pertinent. Anyone else have ideas or information on these mysterious lens threads? I notice that Leica has made no mention of them as far as I can tell.
