I think the iPad is going to be a hit with professionals like Pilots, Doctors & Photographers. Wait a few months till developers get to grips with it's capabalities and write Apps for it. I've already heard several Pilots & Doctors say how much they are looking forward to having specialized software written for it.

At least in the iPhone anyway, 3G can be turned off.

Personally, I'd rather have something available when I so desire, than not have it at all.

Siguro, but with a lot of caution. In France, 3 guys (1 is a doctor) had 3G bills from 15000 to 48 000 :D€ last autumn…

Here in the UK O2 charge 3 GBP a megabyte for data roaming in the EU, 6 GBP a megabyte outside of the EU. It would be _very_ easy to run up an astronomic charge if you were using something like an iPad to upload photographs or listening to music from a streaming server.

Not if it doesn't multitask and has to have documents loaded through iTunes

Dear folks, I don't want to spoil your party, but for me personally it is still not clear why I should use an iPad and think about apps and connectivity and so on.

My laptop is doing very well everything I need with its excellent screen, the several ports, WLAN, Bluetooth, large hard drive, ergonomic keyboard, professional software, and so on. And if I am on places where no WLAN does exist I take my mobile phone and connect to the internet for a reasonable price.

And lastly, my laptop is not that heavy and large, I can carry it with me everywhere I go.

Jeez, these born again Mac apostles and disciples pop up everywhere...AFAIK at least the iPad is overpriced for what it does...and €300 for a 3G modem?

Apostles ? Just facts and figures, and a slight omission here : please factor in running cost of any Apple device.

For my part, since 14 years, these running cost have amounted to 0.

After a few dozens Mac computers and various Apple apparatus, I experienced

3 problems — all solved and paid for by Apple (even when out of

warranty).

Meanwhile, I could ruin your evening in recounting several horror

stories with HP (un)support, Micro$oft (non)support and some other lousy IT

companies ($@)supports…

Regarding Apple pricing, geeks blogs and mags are full of true comparative

demonstrating the modest price gap between Mac and PC — reducing every

year as Apple is constantly offering more for less.

PS : Firoze is right. iPad will be a huge hit with professionals.
