larbel Posted February 23, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted February 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry if these questions are kinda stupid, but anyway.. Since the Lightroom 2.6.1 is standard Adobe download version without any X1 preset colors, does the film settings in the camera do anything to DNG files, or are they intended for in camera JPEGs only? I don't see anywhere at Leica site that I can download X1 profiles for LR, are they available? Â And are you guys seeing excess lens barrel distortions?? I guess there's no build in correction in the camera and LR has no build in correction function as well, or did I overlook it? Is there any easy step that I can automate the lens correcton step? Thanks!

Thanks! No, but on some architecture shots there is slight barrel distortion which is easily fixed in Photoshop. It is hardly worth automating unless you do a lot of work where distortion is apparent.
janmartm Posted February 23, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted February 23, 2010 I just discovered yesterday that the DNG files from the X1 contain an embedded camera profile. When processing a DNG in the 'Develop' module in Lightroom, you can select the embedded profile under 'Camera Calibration' in the right side panel. Â The effect (at least in my opinion) of choosing the embedded profile in the DNG's from the X1, instead of the Adobe standard profile makes the colors look even more Leica-ish. peterv Posted February 24, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted February 24, 2010 Hi Jan, could you elaborate a bit on what in your opinion, are 'Leica-ish' colours? Thanks
janmartm Posted February 24, 2010 Share #6  Posted February 24, 2010 Hi Jan,could you elaborate a bit on what in your opinion, are 'Leica-ish' colours? Thanks  First of all it's a matter of taste. But when comparing photographs from an M8 or M9 to other cameras like a Nikon D200 the colors from the Leica cameras are more subtle, they seem more balanced. I am very pleased to find the same characteristics in the photographs from my X1. In my opinion it's a sort of 'Leica look' that I don't see in other cameras.  I am not sure what contributes exactly to this but I suppose it's the lense combined with how the sensor readout is processed. thomsva Posted February 26, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted February 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did some comparison between the Adobe and the Embedded profiles yesterday. I found that most of the time the difference between the profiles is very little, sometimes even hard to notice when switching back and forth. But on one of my pictures with strong red colour there is a huge difference and the Adobe profile works better there in my opinion. Generally the biggest difference between the profiles seems to be how red and orange tones are handled.

darvin2138 Posted March 6, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted March 6, 2010 I've noticed the same thing with the M8. Â How can you make it as a default in Lightroom..I like the camera standard for M8 instead of adobe standard..my way is so tedious that it has to be changed for every photo. The default on lightroom is Adobe Standard and I cannot find on how to change that default to Camera Standard. Please help. TIA
markgay Posted March 6, 2010 Share #10  Posted March 6, 2010 I'm not going to roll out the barrel and start shooting brick walls, but I'll throw this image out for discussion:  To those with an eye for barrel distortion, is it evident here:  EmbankmentHouseFacade.jpg (image)  Regards, Mark  Money Circus
jsrockit Posted March 6, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted March 6, 2010 It is evident, but not horrible.
