dcuthbert Posted February 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) evening all, anyone know of why this would be happening on certain images? No harsh light sources anywhere, sensor was fixed 8 months ago (still getting green banding but that's another issue) Thanks
Advertisement Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Hi dcuthbert, Take a look here White stripes across image. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted February 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2010 Does it do this on every storage card? If so, I would think that either the camera or the sensor was to blame.
dcuthbert Posted February 21, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 21, 2010 I thought it might have been the storage card, so swapped it out and tried another, same thing. Never seen this mentioned before, so was unsure of the cause. Doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it renders the image unusable, which is unfortunate
epand56 Posted February 21, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 21, 2010 Is the picture taken with very high ISO and slightly underexposed? Generally that's the cause of those white stripes. I sometimes get them when shooting at 1250 or 2500 and not exposing properly.
dcuthbert Posted February 21, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted February 21, 2010 320 ISO and I wouldn't say it was that underexposed as to cause the lines. I've sent another mail to Leica support in the uk. Along with the green banding on images, this is just another sign something isn't right with the sensor and it should be under warranty since Leica only fixed it in July last year. However, I don't know much about it but I believe Leica once explained a similar problem I had as "electronics" and replaced the electronic board and I think problem had gone. I don't know anything about Leica rep. in uk, but I have the impression that Leica solms are, at this stage, extremely capable of diagnosing different electronic issues and repairing them. jaapv Posted February 21, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sure it is not smear residue from sensor cleaning?
dcuthbert Posted February 21, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted February 21, 2010 Jaapv, nope, it doesn't happen all the time and residue would show up on every image.
ho_co Posted February 21, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2010 dcu-- Might it be another example of my "Jesus stripes" (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/110417-jesus-stripes.html)? In that case, after I sent them a couple examples, Leica informed me that it was a problem with the main circuit board, which would need to be replaced. I was a bit surprised that they had apparently seen enough examples of the phenomenon to be able to identify it at a glance. For me, this pattern occurred when the camera made an additional image while one was still being written to the card, with a delay of about 2 sec between the two per EXIF. Is that similar in your case? Sorry to see another example of the same problem, if indeed that's what you've got.
dcuthbert Posted February 22, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted February 22, 2010 Leica UK are fantastic, spoke to them and they are arranging Fedex to pick it up from me on Wednesday and get it over to Germany. Cannot fault them on the level of service, it's amazing
