Buzz Kanter Posted February 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Did I break a rule without knowing it to ask about the current value of a new in box M6 body? Seems odd that this is sufficient grounds to close the thread. I am not trying to be a wise guy or trouble maker, but where else can I find out what my old gear is worth these days? Seems odd that this is sufficient grounds to close the thread. I am not trying to be a wise guy or trouble maker, but where else can I find out what my old gear is worth these days? There's plenty of places to research the value of your gear that are far better than asking someone here. The research is best done on your own. eBay active AND completed listings are a good way that's free and easy. There are also numerous online used retailers that you could review as well as several resource websites that give value ranges of a wide range of Leica gear, as the previous poster suggested as well. Consider that some people start threads asking about the value of gear they are "thinking" of selling simply to avoid having to pay a few bucks to properly list the gear in the classifieds. The terms of thread postings are here for you to review on your own and this policy is plainly communicated.

earleygallery Posted February 21, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 21, 2010 What makes you think that 'we' are all experts on market values? The value of any camera is very much down to condition and Leica particularly so. No one here can give you any meaningful information for YOUR camera. It is very simple to do a search of Leica dealers, and view sold items on e bay. You could also put an advert in the buy/sell section, with photos and invite offers. Xmas Posted February 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2010 Most of the dealers will do commission sales, and will tell you what amount you should pit it in for, and what % they will take. If you ask over the top some one may buy it anyway... Noel
Craftsman Posted February 22, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) James you certainly don't speak for everyone as I'm sure you're aware. Plenty of Leica owners could give a pretty good idea of value. I don't recall the OP suggesting any of us are experts. He could do a lot of things but he asked here. Rude is easy an answer may require more thought. What makes you think that 'we' are all experts on market values? The value of any camera is very much down to condition and Leica particularly so. Rude is easy an answer may require more thought. I'm not being rude just factual. You might have an idea of what a 'new boxed' M6 would sell for but without inspecting the camera how can anyone value it? I've seen people describe something as mint that I'd call well used. And it can't be 'new' in any case - it's a second hand camera and if its been stored in the box since it was bought it will really need a CLA if someone wants to use it - that will be circa £400 from Leica. There are sticky threads from the forum mods as to what people should do if seeking a valuation for their camera. The M6 isn't a rarity and it's quite simple to do a quick search on the web for current market values.
