chrism Posted December 14, 2006 Share #21 Posted December 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) One thing for Mac users to be aware of: when you go from CS2 to CS3 you will need to upgrade your plug-ins. The plug-ins written for use on the G4/G5 processors will not work on an Intel Core Duo. I checked with Alien Skin and they confirm this, saying they expect an upgrade fee of about $20US for the new plug-in. For myself, this will be a small percentage of the cost of upgrading to CS3, and one of those things that has to be borne to continue using Photoshop. The speed increase will be worth it (or I shall get, shall I say, a little cross?) Chris
Advertisement Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Hi chrism, Take a look here Beta of Photoshop CS3 available from the 15th of Dec . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted December 14, 2006 Share #22 Posted December 14, 2006 Lightroom is a RAW converter only. Not quite right: you can import JPGs, for example, and treat them like raws. It can only do whole-image manipulation though, and is missing the fancy filters of photoshop, as well as layers.
Peter41951 Posted December 14, 2006 Share #23 Posted December 14, 2006 You're right, of course. I ought to have said Lightroom doesn't make CS2 redundant. I've tried it on older jpegs and not found it terrible useful, nor at this stage do I use much of its other non-raw converter facilities. Still, as a purchaser of Pixmantec Rawshooter, I'm to be given the first release of Lightroom and will probably get more used to it. Having said that, I downloaded the trial of C1Pro a couple of days ago and really like using that, mainly because of its flexibility in using Jamie's profiles on M8 files. Guest stnami Posted December 15, 2006 Share #24 Posted December 15, 2006 Looking good... Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 15, 2006 Share #32 Posted December 15, 2006 I'm going to put his on my MacBook Pro also . really need the help there with only 2gbs of Ram. The Mac pro has 6gbs . i also feel on the Mac Pro 4gbs is the magic number and above to run this machine correctly with the current Cs2. This number of ram maybe less with the Universal code, which would help a lot of people because the cost of the Ram will surely put a dent in your wallet on the Mac Pro. Also i think we should report any glitches we see here, to give members any heads up . This is a beta version so may want to backup your system to a another drive just in case. reven Posted December 15, 2006 Share #33 Posted December 15, 2006 One of the finest raw converter ever ? Ok I downloaded it and played around for it for quite some time. I checked several images from my 10D, 5D and 1DsMk2. (don't have an M8 yet ) I was shocked. I love Camera Raw 4.0. Ok I have to do further testings, but my first thing that camne in my mind after playing with it. WOW It's the best Raw converter I know. Certainly much better than Camera Raw 3 and even better than anything from C1. Now I don't use Mac so I can't comment on Raw Developer. Now I'm still missing a nicer crop system like in lightroom, but the rest is fantastic. I love all the color tuning tablets. I really would like to know what the rest of you is thinking about it. LOL I didn't even open Photoshop ... I was to fascinated with Bridge and Camera Raw
popum Posted December 15, 2006 Share #34 Posted December 15, 2006 CS3 is great on my Intel Mac. Only problem is now CS2 won't open and I need to that to get at some of my plug-ins. Any advice? Mike
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 15, 2006 Share #35 Posted December 15, 2006 Mike maybe go in your plugins folder and copy them to another folder than load on CS3. have not loaded it yet but that maybe a workaround
sdai Posted December 15, 2006 Share #36 Posted December 15, 2006 Mike maybe go in your plugins folder and copy them to another folder than load on CS3. have not loaded it yet but that maybe a workaround Guy, that won't work ... these are different binary executables compiled for different platforms. Apprently, the best thing to do is wait.
MarkM6 Posted December 15, 2006 Share #37 Posted December 15, 2006 All you need is your CS2 serial number to activate the Beta. That is, *if* you want to try it for more than 2-days.
chrism Posted December 15, 2006 Share #38 Posted December 15, 2006 It certainly is nice to have a PS that opens in a few seconds rather than minutes! Unfortunately, I now can confirm that plug-ins like Noiseware Professional, AlienSkin BlowUp and Exposure will need updating. Chris
gesper Posted December 15, 2006 Share #39 Posted December 15, 2006 Has anyone found a way to retain access to both CS2 and CS3?
LJL Posted December 15, 2006 Share #40 Posted December 15, 2006 On my MacBook Pro, I have CS2 and CS3 beta now loaded, and both of them work. Have not tried running them a the same time, but I can use either. One thing I noticed missing in CS3 was the Web Gallery creation automation. It was available as a PS tool from Bridge. Great way to create galleries, as most of us know. It now seems to be missing from Bridge CS3 and PS CS3. This is not good for some of us that create lots of large Web galleries (event stuff). Anybody see or know anything different from this? LJ
