drdannn Posted February 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) In the "REC" mode there is an option to turn 'on or off' a setting called "ASPECT 1:1" . My question is , what is Aspect 1:1 and how does it apply? Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers, Dan
Advertisement Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Hi drdannn, Take a look here D Lux 4 Question please.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
barnvelder Posted February 20, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2010 Aspect 1:1 sets the ratios of the sides of the photo to be equal so you are taking a picture in a square frame. This is an unusual format and one that I've not tried out very much. Has only arrived with latest firmware update. Leica have downloadable guide to features of this update on their website. Since the update I have used 1:1 almost exclusively and find it very challenging. However, I Haven't found a way of selecting 1:1 when the camera is in Auto mode - anybody have suggestions? DLUXIOUS4 Posted February 22, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2010 I just crop the photo during post processing ;-)
kalina Posted February 22, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2010 Sometimes you want to capture that special 1:1 aspect ratio moment in real-time, not in post-processing, so having it available is really cool. I miss 1:1 on the D Lux 4 I sold. I wish my Canon S90 had it.
ho_co Posted February 23, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) ... I Haven't found a way of selecting 1:1 when the camera is in Auto mode - anybody have suggestions? I think 1:1 is only available when chosen from the menu. Auto is designed to simplify all choices, so only the three settings on the lens are available. The closest thing to Auto that will let you choose 1:1 is Program mode, AFAIK. Hope that helps, though it's not the answer you wanted.

You're right Howard, it must be selected via the menu - however, I only choose Auto when using the flash, so it's not really a problem. I'll select 4:3 and crop in iphoto
