atufte Posted December 15, 2006 Author Share #21 Posted December 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Alexander, look at the candles. There's a thick stripe coming out of the top of the left hand candle and another thinner stripe between them. Tough to know if the first stripe is meant to be there - it's there in the picture of the lady with the dog, might be a surface on the wall but it seems rather flat. Mark Those "stripes" is the molding, framing around the window in the candleshot, and the framing around the livingroom door in the one with the girl and the dog... But i see why you thought so, since it's in the exact same spot in both pictures... :-) Alex
Advertisement Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Hi atufte, Take a look here Strange stripe with M8 . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted December 15, 2006 Share #22 Posted December 15, 2006 Yes, I see it now! I think your sensor is faulty....
atufte Posted December 16, 2006 Author Share #23 Posted December 16, 2006 Just recieved my one and only B+W 486 IR CUT filter after weeks of looking, and since i could not find a 39mm i bought a 52mm i stumbled over i shop nearby with a step-up ring for 39mm and 48mm and this works like a charm, at least until february.... :-) But what i just found out is very strange, the 486 filter reduces the stripe, it's not all gone but it's reduced by about 60-70% with the use of this filter, hhhhmmm...? That means that the pixels in this "stripe" is even more IR sensitive than the rest of the sensor....? Eoin Posted December 16, 2006 Share #24 Posted December 16, 2006 Filter or no filter, this is not correct and it should be returned to the dealer for replacement with a non defective unit ASAP. It's bad enough for us early adopters to have to send our M8's back for "upgrade" but you clearly have a defective "factory fixed" unit and as such needs replacement not repair. Best of Luck with your situation.

Best of Luck with your situation. I agree, i have of course sent Leica Solms an email and told them about my right's by the World Wide Warranty Disclosure Rules, and if they follow this rules (they better) i will get a new functional replacement camera shipped "very quickly" and swopped with the the one i got...i think Leica should be real careful handeling this kind of things right now, since there seems to be a bit to many weak links in their quality control organ this days... Another thing, they told me to register my camera online and i would get a 2 IR CUT filters and 30% off on a new lens as some kind of "sorry for the trouble" all this is ok, but when i got to the registring part and wrote in the serial number i got another surprise, it said: "The serial number you have entered has already been registered" so it seems this camera have already been sold to some other unlucky user, only to be sent back and get "half way fixed" an pass through the Leica control organ once again with this very easy detectable faults, hmmm, why they even bother signing the quality control slip is beyond me...? :-( Best Regards Alexander Tufte http://www.alexandertufte.com
carstenw Posted December 17, 2006 Share #26 Posted December 17, 2006 Alexander, be sure to tell Leica about the serial number. Someone is being dishonest, and it isn't you. Leica will surely do the right thing for you.
harmsr Posted December 17, 2006 Share #27 Posted December 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Unfortunately, it is not only Alexander. Jorge Torralba and myself, both with new 1.09 cameras today have the EXACT same line in the EXACT same position of the frame on our cameras. It does not appear at lower ISO or in evenly lit outdoor shots. It does appear in ISO 640, 1250, 2500 shots in interiors. I am going to be experimenting a little more to find out more specifics, but HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ray
ho_co Posted December 17, 2006 Share #28 Posted December 17, 2006 "The serial number you have entered has already been registered" so it seems this camera have already been sold to some other unlucky user, only to be sent back ... Alexander-- I'm sure Leica did not do this. They keep very careful serial number records. Talk to your dealer. It sounds as if someone bought the camera and registered it, then returned it to the dealer without telling him it was registered. He sent it to Leica, who fixed it and returned it to him. And he sold it to you, still thinking it was 'brand new.' Since it is registered, the first customer has already ordered your free filters. The first purchaser shouldn't have registered it in the first place. But having registered it, he should have told the dealer that it was registered, because that means it is now a 'used' camera. Don't misunderstand: The serial number registration issue is a separate one from the defective sensor issue. --HC
khun_k Posted December 17, 2006 Share #29 Posted December 17, 2006 Mine is firware 1.06, I did not find this in my pictures but did find some when there is strong high light, rarely happened, so I think it is OK since except this, my M8 is really working for me. atufte Posted December 17, 2006 Author Share #30 Posted December 17, 2006 Sad to see, AlexanderHopefully you get it fix Mine does not do this - I really tried - and it also arrived with the same batch as yours Can you please try this Jarle, since our camera is from the exact same batch: In Norwegian: Håper virkelig ikke du også har disse problemene, men etter hva jeg har sett så langt ser det faktisk ut som denne feilen gjelder alle "oppgraderte kameraer med fw 1.09, siden vi bare er noe få (rundt 10 stk) som har dette kamera i Norge kan det jo være greit og kommunisere litt oss i mellom ang disse problemene, send meg gjerne en mail om du har noen spørsmål (finner du på min hjemmeside http://www.alexandertufte.com) Try taking a picture in a dark environment in DNG, make sure you have a light source in front of the lens (not from the back) then push the exposure about + 1-2 stops in the raw conversion, if it does not show now, you are one lucky fellow :-) Here's an example of what kind of light to use to provoke this problem: http://www.alexandertufte.com/stripe3.jpg I hope everyone else with a camera from the new batch and firmware 1.09, will try this aswell, since we need to adress if this malfunction includes every camera from this batch...please let us know!!! gravastar Posted December 17, 2006 Share #32 Posted December 17, 2006 Alexander, be sure to tell Leica about the serial number. Someone is being dishonest, and it isn't you. Leica will surely do the right thing for you. It could just be a previous person has made an error when entering their serial number. I've had exactly the same thing happen with Canon. But as others say, let Leica know about the problem. Bob.
