I am testing out the M9 and posting about it on my blog. The first post went up today. I will be posting a lot more over the next few weeks. Loving it so far. I am sure I may have some questions, so glad to have found this forum. Cheers, Lara
Advertisement Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Hi Piewacket, Take a look here Testing Out the M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
D&A Posted February 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2010 Hi Lara, Welcome and fire away those questions. You'll find we're a friendly bunch here except for a few crusty ones (no names being mentioned . I guess all sugar and nice isn't always the best mix in a recipe. I had a quickly look at your webiste...eclectic and very interesting! I'm sure you're going to find quite a bit of same magic you found in that old film Leica that you had used previously, in the Leica M9. It's extremely capable and it encouranges you to capture your own style and signature onto your images. Good luck with this new venture and trying out the camera to see if it works for you. anupmc Posted February 18, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 18, 2010 Welcome Lara... Looking through your portfolio, brilliant composition and processing, it evokes that sense of nostalgia that I expect will get even better with the M9

Jeff S Posted February 19, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 19, 2010 Welcome, Lara. I'm sure you'll love your M9, but don't forget to make your 50 Summilux asph feel loved, too...that lovely lens will surely add to the great results. Jeff
SJP Posted February 19, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 19, 2010 Welcome! Very impressive pictures on your website. It is good to see a Leica being used by someone that knows what she is doing. I'm afraid my pictures will remain at basementdweller level but some inspiration may help me to improve somewhat so I am looking forward to further Leica posts on your blog. jpattison Posted February 19, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 19, 2010 Hi Lara, Fabulous blog! Stylish, and Retro at the same time. Your colours are so cool. by the way, DNG is RAW, it stands for "Digital NeGative". Adobe want every camera maker to use it so it becomes standard. Cheers, John

Piewacket Posted February 23, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted February 23, 2010 Thanks for all the nice comments, I just returned from Los Angeles where I went to play in a major pool tournament (pictures are not all I shoot!) I posted a little travelogue on the legendary pool room we played at for my blog. I shot a lot of portraits while I was there, including a series for a magazine. I think this is a perfect portrait camera! I will be testing it out for fashion later this week.

xtoph Posted February 23, 2010 Share #14 Posted February 23, 2010 Hi Lara, Fabulous blog! Stylish, and Retro at the same time. Your colours are so cool. by the way, DNG is RAW, it stands for "Digital NeGative". Adobe want every camera maker to use it so it becomes standard. Cheers, John as john says, dng isn't 'instead of' raw, it *is* raw--just not yet another proprietary format of raw. anything you can do to your cr2 raws, you should be able to do to the dng file. btw, i am jealous of the lens--i've been looking for a 50/1.4 to buy for about 2 months now without success. most dealers won't even take my name, saying leica is completely out of stock and won't say when more are coming. i also agree about it being an impressive blog--

Piewacket Posted February 25, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted February 25, 2010 Two new M9 post on my blog, one on shooting portraits in the b/w mode and some interior shots....Yesterday, I shot some beauty images I will be posting next week. I have one last shoot today before I send it back. I am very sad to see it go. This is a remarkable camera!
D&A Posted February 25, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 25, 2010 Lovely shots! Are you considering picking up an M9 once the loaner is returned? As an alternative, abeit with certain alterations in both lens choice (due to 1.3x crop factor) and use of camera (IR cut filters for color images etc.) a far less expensive M8 might also fit in nicely. For B&W use (as well as B&W IR images), the M8 is also a standout. Dave (D&A)

I have looked at M8s on ebay and those are still pretty pricey, thanks for the suggestion though. I am considering seeking out a vintage M3... if I can find a good deal. chris_tribble Posted February 26, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 26, 2010 You can get the M6 for very good prices ... if you're happy scanning film this might be your best solution until you can get a full frame digital. My argument for the M6 is that it will hold value better than the M8. Your problem now might be getting an affordable lens - they're like hen's teeth. Again, looking at your style of work, a 35 summicron version IV might be ideal. Thanks for the good work you've done and congratulations on the blog.
