smoody Posted February 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been looking for a new adjustable wrist strap for my M9 and came across this very inexpensive product: Amazon.com: Olympus 202316 Water-Ready Adjustable Strap: Camera & Photo I ordered one and I'm very happy with it. Here's why: I keep my camera in my hand most of the time, but sometimes it goes back in the bag when I need both hands. Because of the silicone covering around the strap, it stays in the shape of a wide-open loop when not in use. This makes it very easy to get on in a hurry and easy to take off -- especially over gloves, etc. I store my camera vertically in my bag and the open loop is placed on-top-of it, so it's a single motion to slide my hand through the strap and grab the camera (I never take my camera out of the bag without the wrist strap in place). The string that connects the strap to the camera is a bit thin but appears to be strong enough for my use -- since I don't swing the M9 from my wrist while walking down the streets of New York, I think it'll be just fine. Plus it's very comfortable to wear, even when it is adjusted to be tight around my wrist. A cheap wrist strap almost isn't worth a post, but I figure someone might find it useful. Cheers, Scott

MacSpikes Posted February 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2010 Although it appears to be a nice strap, I wouldn't trust it to hold a €5k+ camera. So be careful!
ho_co Posted February 18, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks for the post, Scott. I wasn't aware of the Olympus strap, and hearing a positive comment on a strap is always useful information. I'm currently using one from gordy's camera straps, but always interested in other alternatives.

sm23221 Posted February 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 19, 2010 I use a similar Olympus strap (without the silicone) and have used one for several years now both with my M8 and M9. It is the largest kept secret for keeping your M8/M9 safe and secure. It's the best accessory I every bought for my M8 and M9. It is very durable and easily holds the camera. stunsworth Posted February 19, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 19, 2010 I use a Chinese wrist strap bought on eBay for $12 or so including postage. Stitched leather and a metal ring to attach to the camera complete with leather protector to avoid the ring rubbing on the body. Very pleased with it. giordano Posted February 19, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The string that connects the strap to the camera is a bit thin but appears to be strong enough for my use -- since I don't swing the M9 from my wrist while walking down the streets of New York, I think it'll be just fine. Surely (a) the purpose of the wrist strap is to stop the camera falling if you lose your grip on it, and ( you're most likely to lose your grip if you stumble or are pushed, ergo © the strap needs to be strong enough to cope with sudden jerks and snatches. In other words, if the strap is strong enough for its primary purpose it will be amply strong enough for you to swing the camera round your head ... and if it's not safe for some gentle wrist-swinging then it's not fit for purpose. IMHO the breaking strength of the strap should be at least ten times the weight of the thing you hang from it, or half the breaking strength of your wrist - whichever is less. hookonclassic Posted February 21, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 21, 2010 Bear in mind that there is always wear and tear for soft sling to camera lug contact. It may be adequately strong when new, but strength greatly deteriorate when the sling wear at the lug ring. For me, a metal ring at the camera lug contact is a must. menos I M6 Posted February 21, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 21, 2010 Leica made a nice wrist strap (14406) but it is not anymore available. I made one almost like this (without the leather part) for my M9 out of one side of a spare Leica neck strap. Exactly my take Here is a small tutorial, how to make two Leica wrist straps, scavenging one Leica neck strap: how to make your own Leica wrist strap It was one of the first things, I did after getting my first Leica - a M6 classic. The only fault back then I could find was the lack of a nice and quick wrist strap solution. I change straps often, sometimes I change from wrist to neck strap or back, when on a shoot. The superior Leica connectors make this possible.
swamiji Posted February 24, 2010 Share #11 Posted February 24, 2010 I love wrist straps on my M9. I have a couple. One Leather one I purchased for $12.00 on ebay and a Nylon one I purchased, during my travels. The problem I faced is that sometimes I need to have both hands free. The Leica neck strap, and those of it's type are a pain. I found a Silk cord neck strap from Artisan & Artist, that I wrap around my wrist, and it works both ways.
