burkey Posted February 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Folks, This morning I noticed that when I turned on my M8 with a freshly charged battery the LCD frames and battery power window wouldn't light up. After playing around the camera for a while I also noticed that if I pushed the shutter button down half way the camera would sort of "wake up", i.e. red light on the back lit up as well as the frame/battery power window too. I tried both the original battery as well as an after market one. Both did did the same thing. Admittedly the Leica battery is at least three years old. So, should I try a new Leica battery before I send the body down to NJ for a "look over"? Your opinions are, as always, appreciated. Thanks in advance. . . . jaapv Posted February 13, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2010 It sounds more like the power switch is misbehaving.
ashrafazlan Posted February 14, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2010 A similar problem happened to my M8, only I don't get any blinking lights but I do get an SD error appearing in the viewfinder when I press the shutter.
burkey Posted February 14, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks for the posts. At this point I'm not sure what's going on. I've emailed the Leica folks in NJ. Hopefully I'll hear back in a day or so. . . . David
Shootist Posted February 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 14, 2010 I and others have had this plroblem. It has something to do with the swtich and the electronics in the camera. It seems to go into sleep mode, or maybe stays in deep sleep mode (Off), as soon as you turn the camera on and only wakes up after pressing the shutter release. There is no fix for this by the user. It has to be sent back to Leica for repair or just use it as it is.
