leif e Posted February 12, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) i have tried several (well; many) times to upgrade the firmware of my M8. I bought it used, the installed version is 1.102. I have tried "everythin" and I´m pretty sure I´ve done it right. I really have only one question/possibility left: Could the fact that I use a mac for downloading the file mean trouble? Leica has been rather microsoftishly oriented, I believe. The real reason I ask is that the unzipped file comes up like a blank sheet (visually) on the mac screen - that is; no icon for filetype. But file ending is right. leif e

Nicoleica Posted February 12, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2010 Hi, You shouldn't have any problems using a Mac. In fact, it should be easier, as you don't have to manually unzip the file. The mac OS will do that for you. The filetype will show a blank page on the Mac, as this file is code for the M8, and is meaningless to the Mac. You can't run this file on the mac, only in an M8. After you have downloaded the file from the web page, you should have a file called M8-2_004.UPD in your downloads folder. Place a formatted SD (Note: Not an SDHC card. Your M8 won't recognise that with firmware 1.102.) card in your card reader, and then copy M8-2_004.upd from your downloads folder to the root directory of the SD card. Eject the card from your Mac. Now continue to follow exactly the instructions from Leica to install this on your M8. Please take special care to take note of the instructions regarding waiting between steps 6 and 7. I'd suggest waiting at least 10 seconds to play safe. Good luck. :)
epand56 Posted February 15, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2010 I've always upgraded my M8 firmware on a Mac since it is the only puter I use. Anything was always clean and quick. There is something wrong in your procedure or the SD card you're using is no good.
Tom Johnston Posted February 15, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 15, 2010 as i recall. after dragging the file from the desktop to the card, then putting the card back into the camera, it was pretty much automatic, a confirmation of yes on the camera display. i helped a friend do his and it happened so quickly and automatically that we were both amazed. this was on an old mac mini g4... good luck. carbon_dragon Posted February 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2010 I updated the firmware on a 24" iMac without problems. Make sure the M8 has full battery power before doing the upgrade. Follow the directions EXACTLY and the formatted card you use should be formatted in the M8, not in the Mac.
