dkCambridgeshire Posted April 17, 2010 Share #181 Â Posted April 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Delivery delays will probably be exacerbated because of the volcano dust problem and grounded aircraft. Advertisement Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Hi dkCambridgeshire, Take a look here USA and X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

I want the X1 as a back-up to the M9; we'll see.
nippa Posted April 17, 2010 Share #183 Â Posted April 17, 2010 Looks like disruption to N Europe will last most of next week until the weather system changes to push the ash away. Mind you , given that the Volcano is still active we could repeat the exercise at any time after that whenever the winds are in the wrong direction. It's going to be a funny year for flying. Â I was hearing that the delivery companies like Fed EX are trying to use trucks to move goods from Northern to Southern Europe to meet up with their aircraft so they have a contingency plan. At least the high value Leicas should get through but I'm already missing my fresh fruit and veg from Africa and Central America!
k-hawinkler Posted April 18, 2010 Share #184 Â Posted April 18, 2010 Well, I will find out as my repaired M9 left Solms yesterday. Optimal timing!
Guest ccmsosse Posted April 18, 2010 Share #185 Â Posted April 18, 2010 Well, I will find out as my repaired M9 left Solms yesterday.Optimal timing! So I assume you own the M9 and X1 When do you use which one of the two - I'd be interested to know I currently use the GF1 as my "other" camera - I am fantasizing about a Leica MP, but am not sure I want to go back to film. The X1 would likely be good ... we'll see when I get it.
h00ligan Posted April 19, 2010 Share #186  Posted April 19, 2010 I talked to the local cam shop today, photomark (the man i spoke with was a jerk), he said it would be months before i could handle the cam. I am so bummed that i have to deal with this and at his assertion that leica was so far behind. The cam still holds so much appeal but that wanes every day i can't source it. Add to that the issues we are seeing and the price tag, it leads me to rude gestures in Leica's direction. Niche products are one thing, but this takes the mickey. There has to be a market for the cam, why cant they even reach that? Disappointing, concerning, and curious, in a bad way.  Edit  The dp2s is looking very attractive (i do not shoot into the sun in practice), the red grid issue should not be an issue. That's when I pre-ordered the X1 from my local Leica dealer. Gave them a $500 deposit and am first on the waiting list. I try to support brick and mortar camera stores as much as I can, but this is rediculous. Last week, the dealer just shrugged and couldn't give me a date when my X1 will arrive. Says demand far exceeds supply. Go figure. How many Dick and Janes are going to spend $2000 for a Leica P&S camera when they can get a Kodak digital 15 mpx P&S for $99 at the local big box store?  I'm about to give up, ask for my deposit back, and start looking at MFT cameras (Oly EP-2 or Panny GF-1) or Siggy DP2. At least, I know I can get one. Might have break down and shop online B&H/Adorama.  OK. Rant over.  Regards

Guest badbob Posted April 24, 2010 Share #194 Â Posted April 24, 2010 Getting an X1 is like getting a good employee for your job shop. You can't wait for them to walk in - you have to go find them. Same with X1 - find someone who can get you the camera. I found David at Dale Photo in Florida.

But then while visiting Northern Cali in Feb, I saw a Leica shop and signed up for their X1 waitlist. I was around number 20 or so on their list. Come late March, still no word from Amazon. But then I got a call from the shop that they had a Leica X1 available... So I bought that one and removed myself from the Amazon list.  So sometimes you just need to find the right shop. Same with X1 - find someone who can get you the camera. I found David at Dale Photo in Florida. Â I've been on Dave's wait list for 6 weeks now, which is a good thing in my case. I still haven't seen enough examples of that "leica magic" in posted photos to convince me to pull the trigger.
wda Posted April 24, 2010 Share #197 Â Posted April 24, 2010 lazarus, posted pictures, from any source or camera, rarely show the full qualities or capabilities of a camera or lens. Apart from unavoidable degradation in web viewing, you have to take into account the varying skill levels of the photographers involved. Having made those points, I realize the difficulties of assessing hard evidence, particularly if you have no specialist source near your home or place of work. Like many who have reported, I am still amazed by the quality I am achieving from the Leica X1 but I accept that is just another subjective judgment.
