All these people that were using M8 before complaining about the X1 AF shutter-lag

just put it in MF like the M8 and you have a great street camera again

Would be great if there was a DOF indicator on the screen though...and a serious IS

just sold my M8/28elma, thinking about a follow up (yes/which or no), considering X1, GF1, DP2

X1 has best image quality in high iso for sure, GF1 has HDD video and takes M glass, DP2 has better price...mmmm, ricoh??? other??? We'll see

Many personal small annoyances with my M8 -- bought the first month they were available in 2006! -- caused me to sell all my M-kit (nine lenses) and pre-order an X1 last November. I am NOT amused that Leica is taking so bloody long to ship even a trickle of production units to the good ol' US of A.

But despite my angst about delivery, we're staying the course here . . . anything else than a Leica just wouldn't do.

Looking at the many pictures taken of cats, fruit, brick walls and general landscapes in the photo forum I'd say most of us would do better with a view camera.

It's not that easy. The two cameras are very different in their fundamentals.

With an M (for me, if you can get the extra cash an used M8+28elmarit is way better solution) you get a tested system that works in manual and works real good and fast.

The X1 is designed around its AF. The MF wheel looks real slow to me, the magnified patch was very sensitive in movement, i had many misses until find the magic spot, there are NO visual aids nothing that can verify your choice of distance. On the other hand all this maybe because I was not used to this system. Maybe with time one can get so fast and accurate and can quickly get accustomed to the screen's resolution so that he can locate and identify the optimum setting that provides the best sharpness -hence infocus.

However I do admit that I tried shooting like if it was an M8, which it simply isn't

A clever change would be to the new GXR. The only drawback for me is the (at the moment) missing APS-C lensor with 35 or 28mm.

This camera has so clever menuepoints from the GRD3, it's unbelievable how this camera can be adjusted to different shooting situations or user preferencies.

On the negative side is only that there is no Red Dot in front of the body.....but an electronic viewfinder with 100% coverage of the back screen info.

Well, the other negative is that it doesn't have dedicated dials like the X1.
