jahnpack Posted February 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good evening everyone, Nowadays I am going to buy my Leica M9 and need some advice. I live in Turkey and found one in a store here. Normally I thought that it would be easier and cheaper to buy a Leica from Germany. But from what I've heard it's not easy to find and it's not that cheaper. Also buying from other countries will cost me some taxes if I don't find someone who is coming to Turkey and it is not sure that he/she will find M9 wherever they are. The cost they told me is around 8000$ and I would like to hear your advice. Thanks in advance Can Pekdemir

wparsonsgisnet Posted February 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2010 I paid just under $7,000 US in October for this camera. With the additional grip and Massachusetts taxes, the cost was just over $7,600.
jahnpack Posted February 8, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 8, 2010 The problem is to have the right time that a friend finds an M9 in USA and returns to Turkey. If someone sends me with fedex or something, customs office tax will be around %30 the price. Another thing can be about I'll have the chance to try the camera before I buy it and the dealer says he has a connection with he company for the repairs. Is all of this worth 1000$ for wait and ambiguity.
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 8, 2010 Since M9's are not readily available it is not a good idea to choose to buy it in the US -- at your convenience. It may be worth the $1,000 to get the camera now -- there is a long line of people still waiting for this camera. While I don't mean to call the $1,000 insignificant, I can't tell you where all my money has gone in the camera-computer business. I would get the camera that you have your hands on and call it a lucky day.

RoySmith Posted February 17, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm still waiting for my M9. Leica has a faq page about memory in the M9. You can get it here. There is also a good write up by Ken Rockwell here. Sandisk and Lexar seem to be the most compatible. I bought a 16GB Sandisk Ultra II in anticipation of actually getting an M9. chris_tribble Posted February 17, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 17, 2010 I'm happily using Sandisk Extreme III 8GB and 4GB cards + Sandisk Ultra II 16GB (good value and quite fast enough in my experience).
vanhulsenbeek Posted February 17, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 17, 2010 ............ I am also looking for Zhou half case, suggestions for a case is also welcome.... Mr Zhou's half case is great. I got it with the red stitchings. It does not cost a lot of money either. Very well made. Ordered on Ebay and payed with Paypal and it was on my doorstep (in the Netherlands) in only 3 days
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 17, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 17, 2010 Can, I second the recommendation for the 16gb Ultra II card. I have 3 and find them rapid and dependable. I would look for a 32gb, but they are still 2x as expensive as the 16gb, so what's the point. In the US, I am paying about $50 for the 16gb Ultra II card. patrick parker Posted February 17, 2010 Share #11 Posted February 17, 2010 Unless you are a Turkish citizen you will not be paying customs tax. Hope you get a good deal.
jahnpack Posted February 19, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted February 19, 2010 Hi again, Thanks for all kind replies. I got my M9 today, battery is charging now. : ) I use RD1 for two years and this is first leica and also fullframe camera of mine. By the way I did not understand the strap attachment in the manual, should i push the rubber thing to the end? 4th and 5th step has warning signs. Thanks Can
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 19, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 19, 2010 Can, put a screwdriver or something in the metal loop and pull the black plastic thingy away from the end of the strap. You can then turn the loop so that an end fits thru the eye on the camera. Then, reposition the loop so that the two ends are just sticking out of the sides of the strap again, and pull the black thingy over them again. That will make the loop secure in the end of the strap. The thingy will "snap" when it's in place. It's easier than it sounds. And, Congratulations! It's a terrific camera. jahnpack Posted February 23, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted February 23, 2010 Hi, I bought one (5900euro) from Aras foto in Eminonu. They have one more which is a demo.(5600euro). I think they don't have anymore. Yalcinlar which has been the offical Leica dealer said that they will bring M9 one month later.
