jaay Posted February 11, 2010 Share #21 Â Posted February 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I too recommend buying the VF from camera quest as Stephen is most helpful. The metal voigtlander 35mm VF is the best value when considering it's excellent quality and unbeatable price!
Advertisement Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hi jaay, Take a look here X1 - External VF or no Ext VF?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
GFONG Posted February 11, 2010 Share #22 Â Posted February 11, 2010 If using the X1's viewfiender and turn off the display, will the AF speed improve?
Don Helmudo Posted February 11, 2010 Share #23  Posted February 11, 2010 If using the X1's viewfiender and turn off the display, will the AF speed improve?  I don´t think so. Why should it? But it will make the battery last longer an some people just like to use it rather than the screen. I am thinking of getting an EVF too. Not sure jet.  BTW: Only four more hours until I hold my X1 in my hands
damnsharp Posted February 11, 2010 Share #24  Posted February 11, 2010 ...BTW: Only four more hours until I hold my X1 in my hands  You show off! But seriously, I am jealous... and curious what you think of the cam.

Sorry, I just realized you meant and External View Finder and not an Electronic View Finder (the current use of the term EVF).

That's why I want to know whether turn off the screen will speed up the focus process.
diogenis Posted February 11, 2010 Share #27 Â Posted February 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I prefer to use the LCD and this scares me now about the VF, since I use glasses. I may just stick to the LCD. I was out this weekend with the E-P1 in crazy bright sun and even though at times I couldn't see the screen perfectly, I was able to get my photo. Â The LCD is fine. Leica's VF was gorgeous looking through it, but you do miss the action that happens in the LCD. However I am not wearing any glasses. don't buy one unless you first try it. I remember I had to press my eye almost in the glass to see the frames, but I cannot be sure. After all it was just a 15mins test...
bad robot Posted February 17, 2010 Share #28 Â Posted February 17, 2010 I do have to put my eye right up to it but I am used to it. I used a Nikon FM2 with 24mm fixed focal lens, It seemed OK with these glasses. The Nikon did have a rubber ring around the eye piece which made it a bit more comfortable. jsrockit Posted February 17, 2010 Author Share #29 Â Posted February 17, 2010 bad robot, if you glasses lens is touching the X1's External VF, can you see the whole frame or are you "searching around" with your eye to see the whole frame?
markgay Posted February 17, 2010 Share #30 Â Posted February 17, 2010 Darn the Frankenfinder. Not only do the angles of view not match up (28mm on the Frank is wider than the image on the X1's LCD. I guess the Frank is working to the M8's cropped sensor)... Â .. the Frank looks dangerously ugly on the X1. Don't go there. Â Mark
bad robot Posted February 17, 2010 Share #31 Â Posted February 17, 2010 I have just checked. I wear ultra thin vari focal lens, frameless. I keep both eyes open. I appear to be able to see the whole of the frame, just. If I move the VF slightly, I can loose part of on side of the BL. I need to keep it still and rest the VF just so, it appears clear. I would suggest trying before buying if you have any doubt, just pop in to a photo store and ask if you can try a VF.
volkerhopf Posted February 21, 2010 Share #32  Posted February 21, 2010 Although I'm still waiting for my preordered X1, following the Sean Reid review I bought a Voigtlander 35mm VF in silver. Apart from being considerable cheaper then the Leica VF, It feels of very high quality and I think it looks much nicer. Also I wear "varifocals" spectacles; looking through the VF it still looks clear and bright.  Incidentally I live in the very west of England, but Stephen Gandy's CameraQuest, managed to post it to me in 4 days; from the USA to England, amazingly fast.  I am in the same situation. Can you still see the full 36mm frame with your glasses? Thanks and regards Volker
