thomsva Posted February 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a question for Lightroom experts: In the first three days owning a Leica X1 I took lots of pictures at night with Raw+jpg with jpg setting either at B&W or "natural". I find the "natural" jpg:s very nice for evening photos in the city. Now I have installed Lightroom on my computer and try to get similar or better results. But it didn't take long before I noticed that it's very difficult to improve over the jpg:s. Below is a ISO 3200 shot taken in natural mode. I would like to have similar colours but maybe make the picture slightly darker. But even before I make the picture any darker I notice that the bike seems to have less detail. It seems less sharp and also the highlights on the bike's frame are less visible. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I can also send the raw file if someone wants to try. Advertisement Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Hi thomsva, Take a look here Getting results like "preset film=natural" in Lightroom?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jsrockit Posted February 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2010 I'm no expert, but have you tried to bring the saturation level of the RAW file down? Then mess with the color balance manually as well. With regards to being less sharp... the RAW file isn't effected by the cameras built in sharpening so you'll have to sharpen it in LR. Thomas Krueger Posted February 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 9, 2010 With the Colorchecker Passport from Xrite you can tweak the color profiles for Lightroom. Easy to handle and works fine. thomsva Posted February 9, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted February 9, 2010 Thank's for the input. I have now read some tutorials, and done some more testing and now I'm getting good results from LR. The colorchecker passport seems like an interesting concept.
