Guest BigSplash Posted February 4, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) We were told two weeks ago that Leica had decided to change their warehouse arrangements and that this had caused a two week hickup in supplies. I could not believe at the time that this hickup had not been planned and well communicated to dealers since all shipments (batteries, lenses, M9's shipments etc were obviously going to be delayed. Last week I was told that a large shipment was expected to arrive at my dealer last Friday. Today I have been told that: The shipment of last week did not arrive and that Leica shipments have not been getting through since weeks. The hope is that next week they may receive some of the back orders that should have been delivered prior to Christmas. Many orders have been lost in the system and my dealer with the help of Leica UK is trying to now see if my order of Oct / Nov remains on the system or is one of the items that has simply been lost and needs to be reordered. Dealers remain unclear about what is coming when for confirmed orders. Am I just or unlucky or is this now a general problem. Does anyone have any visibility about what has happened and what Leica plans are to recover from what looks like a widespread problem given the various threads about battery deliveries etc.

bill Posted February 4, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 4, 2010 Ah, not had a good French whine for some time. Tell you what, to save time, I'll write the response too... "But Bill, is it not reasonable to expect Leica to keep us informed? I have invested the GDP of a small middle-European nation in Leica equipment and I have an absolute right to know what is going on? I am told that one of the delivery lorries does NOT have satnav! In this day and age! Do you not agree, Bill? I hear that you do not have an M9 yet, Bill so clearly you do not have the same commitment to Leica that I do. I am not making trouble Bill, I am just a concerned investor - sorry, user. Others have said that Leica are having problems - I don't believe it myself but I shall misquote them here for maximum effect. I ask you Bill is this not fair? Is this not reasonable?" redbaron Posted February 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 4, 2010 Is it possible you are on their ignore list? BTW, I was in the KaDeWe store in Berlin yesterday and their Leica salesman said they were having no problems.
spylaw4 Posted February 4, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 4, 2010 M9 + X-1 arriving - albeit at a trickle, X-1 may improve v soon. Lens situation dire - dealers fed up.

RedBaron ...I must admit I am beginning to feel that Leica are indeed trying to punish me. However I am reminded in this forum and by talking to several dealers that I am far from alone. Glad that the Berlin is happy though. You said some time ago that you are coming to the South of France ...please send me a PM if you are interested to get together if in the Nice, Cannes area. I'd like to meet up!
Guest BigSplash Posted February 4, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 4, 2010 "But Bill, is it not reasonable to expect Leica to keep us informed? Actually Bill I have repeatedly said that I would not expect Leica to inform "us" unless they had a really major issue such as a recall. I would however expect Leica to: Keep their dealers fully informed about changing warehouses or supply problems....it surely should not be a surprise. Update and inform dealers about revised delivery dates for all orders placed, when things go wrong. I think it amazing that Leica UK, who rely on Solms have no idea where my order is since October, and cannot confirm that it is on their system .....Call that whining if you like. It is not the service level that I expected from a brand like Leica. Also for completeness I have NOT so far contacted Milton Keynes or Solms I have stood back and asked my dealer to find out what is going on ....and they are very upset with the service level from Solms that they are seeing, believe me. andybarton Posted February 4, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 4, 2010 But, you haven't contacted Leica UK. Have you? I thought you went through your dealer. I'm confused now. The responsibility to keep you informed rests squarely with your dealer, IMHO. It is up to him to deal with MK or Solms, and not for them to deal with you directly. Unless, that is, you contacted them directly in the first place.

I say that I am relying totally on my dealer, and actually have done so since October...although several people suggested that I go to another dealer having placed an order with my usual supplier. I guess the Afternoon Grog in Manchester is stronger than usual today! I am drinking less and less alcohol these days, as it causes me pain in my lymph system. Have you tried one of the big stores in New York? Loyalty to a shop is one thing, but if you're not happy then I'm sure you could find what you want elsewhere. I'll be in Aix in a couple of weeks. A beer would be great! I hope it's warmer than here. (the weather, that is. Not the beer.)
Guest BigSplash Posted February 4, 2010 Share #15 Posted February 4, 2010 This is what was confusing me. Your dealer should know what has happened to your order. He made it on your behalf. I TOTALLY AGREE ....that is exactly my point! Either my dealer has screwed up (since October); OR or is telling me fibs about the lack of visibility from MK, and that they seem to be clueless about what Solms is shipping them, when? and where my order is on the Leica internal system; OR..........just possibly Leica Solms has an issue within their internal systems. On the basis that this lack of clarity on what is going to be shipped when and where seems to be w/wide for M9, batteries, lenses I suspect it is not just my dealer nor MK. I actually do not accept the following arguments: M9 deliveries cannot be accurately committed and met weeks in advance if the manufacturing operation is in control. Much has been written about the huge unexpected demand for M9 but what has this got to do with committing delivery schedules to dealers.....and then meeting these dates? Lenses ..same comment as per above Accessories such as lenshoods and batteries ....should be off the shelf items I think unless Leica make these only against a specific client order, which does not seem logical. (the weather, that is. Not the beer.) I tried BH in New York but they have to order both parts (lenshood and UV/IR filter Series 6) also and others have written that Leica M8 (M9) batteries are also in short supply in US also. Also getting stuff into France from US can result in a pleasant afternoon at French customs and lots of fees so I decided to buy in UK. Anyhow thanks for the suggestion. A trip to Aix sounds like fun. Please let me have your contact details (Mobile ideally) ...just PM me .

Guest BigSplash Posted February 5, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 5, 2010 Have you tried the BBC shipping forecast? I guess that you are suggesting that it will be more accurate than any shipping forecast from Solms. I personally hope that Solms eventually recognise the need to fix the issue and I am aware (through my dealer) that Milton Keynes are doing their very best to get better visibility etc.
