jsrockit Posted March 1, 2010 Share #21 Posted March 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) However, I am still perplexed with what the representative told me over the phone: "Our website is not reliable for sales. If you want to make sure we have the item on stock you should call us." I believe if one cannot sell goods reliably online, one should either warn this in the homepage with big letters or take the website down and only sell goods over the phone. I think it is just that they probably sell so much used gear that it is hard to keep up with their site. For all you know the CM could have sold just hours before you placed your order. kdemas Posted March 2, 2010 Share #22 Posted March 2, 2010 I enjoyed shooting Kodak chromogenic BW400 in my CM. Kodachrome and 400uc were always terrific as well. Enjoy your CM!!
andybarton Posted March 2, 2010 Share #23 Posted March 2, 2010 1) What is 'derated'? Shoot the film at 200 ISO, not 400, but the lab develops as normal.

ducttape Posted March 2, 2010 Share #25 Posted March 2, 2010 ok, feeling foggy today. What would the results be then? 1 stop under exposure?
masjah Posted March 2, 2010 Share #26 Posted March 2, 2010 ok, feeling foggy today. What would the results be then? 1 stop under exposure? First of all, the print won't look under-exposed because the print machine will compensate, but in my experience, you get a better balanced grey scale overall, with a degree of improvement in detail in the shadows. Checkland Posted March 2, 2010 Share #27 Posted March 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like: Kodak Portra 160NC Kodak Tri XIlford 100 and 3200 [*]Kodachrome 64 (if you can get any) [*]Fujichrome 400X Provia [*]Fuji Provia 100F [*]Fuji Velvia 50 But would like to try: Portra 160/400 VC Ektachrome 100G But as has been said its all personal preference and trying any that take your fancy, I'm 24 and just received my first roll of kodachrome back today and absolutely love it! Glad I have another 14 rolls in the fridge/freezer. I dont particularly like Ektar 100 but many do and swear by it, its horses for courses.
carlosecpf Posted March 4, 2010 Author Share #28 Posted March 4, 2010 I think it is just that they probably sell so much used gear that it is hard to keep up with their site. For all you know the CM could have sold just hours before you placed your order. I understand this, but my point is they should have mentioned this clearly in their website. If they made this disclaimer in advance, I would probably have called them before placing the order. If this is a known limitation, it is fair to share it, for customer services sake. I bought few things from them after this happened and this just a constructive feedback.

I decided to focus on 2 films for now to get consistency and do a better comparison with other films later. For now I will be using Ilford FP4 Plus and Kodak Portra NC 400. My next B&W film will be Tri-X and I am still not sure which other all around color film (ISO 400) I will try.
LKSC Posted March 4, 2010 Share #30 Posted March 4, 2010 Many years ago, when the CM was first released, another forum member, Justin Scott, persuaded Leica to come up with a suitable design for a lens hood (actually for the Minilux). I got S.K. Grimes to manufacture a prototype based on it, using their slip-on technology and it's since become a stock item. If you'd like to seek it out this is the link. Leica CM and Minilux Lens hood I also ordered one of the original prototype run at the time, and can heartily recommend it. Also SKG were really nice people to deal with. carlosecpf Posted March 5, 2010 Author Share #32 Posted March 5, 2010 Before realizing that SKG was still selling the CM hood, I bought one from eBay. Apparently it comes with a tread so I could mount filters on it. Does anyone know what size this thread would be? It seems so small... I doubt I will ever find a filter that could fit in it. Also, it seems the hood must be mounted on and off every time I turn on or off the camera. It does not stay on permanently right?

Does anyone know what size this thread would be? It seems so small... I doubt I will ever find a filter that could fit in it. Also, it seems the hood must be mounted on and off every time I turn on or off the camera. It does not stay on permanently right? As I said earlier, mine is one of the origial order - so may not reflect current production. The whole of the front part of the inside is threaded - but I don't think it's intended to take a fliter. It looks to me as if it is SKG's method of producing a "ribbing" to help prevent reflections from this surface into the lens. One further point. I've found that when putting on the hood, it's very important to turn it as you are pushing it on. Otherwise the rubber ring mount design needs a hell of a lot of force to put the thing on (I think it's trying unsuccesfully to "roll" in its slots) and I fear for the focus mechanism! Lazzaros Posted March 8, 2010 Share #34 Posted March 8, 2010 Curiously I had the same problem than Carlos, but not from Keh. I had the CM almost bought when the seller told me that he sold it to a friend. Now I'm looking for one and I can't wait to get it. I have the Minilux too but the CM is amazing and I'd like to compare both. Then I'd sell the Minilux. Today I finished one Velvia 50 on my Contax T2 and it is going to his new owner... If someone has one CM waiting for a new home please tell me something
