DAEDALUS Posted February 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm thinking of getting a Zeiss 35mm Biogon lens for my M9, how do you get the correct frame lines in the view finder without the Leica lens coding? I know there is meant to be no such thing as a dumb question, but this could be the exception! Any help and advice for a Leica newbie would be appreciated.... Thanks..... Advertisement Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Hi DAEDALUS, Take a look here M9 with non Leica Glass. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted February 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2010 The frames in the viewfinder should be no problem, as they do not depend on the coding. They are just triggered in mechanically. For the M9 the coding is not necessary, as you can set a lens code manually, for instance one for the 2/35 Summicron.

pelagia Posted February 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 3, 2010 Daedalus, frame lines are not connected to coding. The framelines are brought up by lense's bayonet mount. If you use non-Leica lenses which are screw (39mm) mount, you should buy an adapter. The adapters are different according to the lens focal length, in order to bring up correct framelines. I enjoy using old Russian screw mount lenses from 1960-70ies with my M9, it gives such a retro feeling of images. Tom

Could you post some example?
pelagia Posted February 4, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 4, 2010 Jerry, I am not sure these examples would show you anything apart from my drinking habits. As you see they are very non-technical. There are lots of nice examples available on the web. These here are from Jupiter-3, at full aperture 1.5; and from Industar 61L/D, at full aperture 2.8. The general images are resized, the crops not resized. Out of camera JPG, auto levels applied. Tom. P.S. Oh yes, I forgot to switch off the manual lens detection, so you do not see correct corners vignetting. The manual detection was set to 35mm f/2. Welcome, dear visitor!
