Hi All,

Just waiting for my "new" Digilux 2 or is it called a D2, to come back from getting a service, sensor, etc.

And I want some decent software, I have last years MacBook Pro and I would like to know your thoughts on Aperture 2......Or some other decent Photo software...:)

Regards Mac....

Hu Mac22,

I use Aperture 2 and I am very happy with it! It is pretty fast and fully compatible with D2's RAW files. I use it in conjunction with Nik Collection plug-in and they together satisfy 100% of my post processing needs. I tried using Lightroom 3 but I didnt like it... I found it less intuitive than Aperture, but that is just me.

John Thawley, another forum member, has a great website full of Aperture tutorials and tips.

I got Aperture (on J.Thawley's recommendation and I really like it.) I need a faster laptop though - my 2+ yr. old MacBook pro is a bit sluggish with large files.

Aperture and a Digilux 2 are a pretty nice combination. Even though Aperture is long overdue for an upgrade, the file size of Digilux 2 images don't require massive computing resources, and won't present any problem for your MB Pro or it's video card. I run it on mine with 4GB or RAM and it's great. My 5D MK11 can bring it to its knees, but those files are stupid big. :)

Another vote for Aperture although not a vote for Apple's slowness in including new cameras.

I feel the same way, too. I like Aperture, especially with the Nik Software plug-ins but wonder if Apple will even try keeping pace with new camera raw formats like the Dlux4 and some of the 4/3 camera entries. Lightroom appears to be pulling away in that category and as much as I don't enjoy post production and the learning curve, may go that route at some point. It will be packaged with the Leica X1 so won't have to go too far when or if that camera ever ships.

Thanks for the replies,

Just spoke to the camera guy about the delivery date of my D2. He tells me another week, but he has a minter D2 in with loads of bits and the box. Downside is it's just under £800...

I declined and would rather wait for the serviced and new sensored camera arriving next week...:)

I tried that link and kept getting a "file damaged, could not be repaired" message -

If you are still having a problem, you will find the Guide here: Tools & Resources - Center for Digital Imaging, Inc.

Only other suggestion I have is to be sure to checkout Lightroom, before you commit your hard earned to Aperture. Steve & Co can't be expected to be the best at everything........

GC is certainly a useful addition to a 'photographic toolkit' - it can do loads of the little file manipulation jobs and adjustments you might need. But it's not ideally suited to handle Digital Asset Management or non-destructive (and complex) file manipulation. That said, it nicely complements something designed to do such things (like Lightroom). It is very reasonably priced, with outstanding support and regular updates.

These comments are all of course IMHO, your experiences and preferences may well differ.

Very well put indeed, Lesh, thank you for the brief analysis especially on non-destructive file manipulation. Btw do you happen to know if GC recognizes Raw files from Dlux-4 or M9 by any chance?

Regarding GC - All I can say is that it handles the RAW files from my D-Lux 3. I'd be very surprised if they don't always move promptly to cover anything put out by their countrymen at Leica. You've nothing to lose by giving the trial version a run. Good luck.
