Hehehe - my Giottos screen protector arrived today ... :p

Kind regards.

Am I the only one that has had problems with this device?

I applied it exactly per the specifications in the package and left the camera untouched overnight in a cool, not cold environment.

Two days later I reached for the camera and it simply fell off. I reapplied it as it was still a bit tacky and it lasted 5 more days. My camera is never near any sort of heat source. Must of been just mine then. :(

Not that easy to shop in japan as I though ;)

But I did learn that Artisan & Artist* is not the official site but belongs to the former US distributor. I don't know if that covers some controversy ... the A&A must be the original made in Japan in any case. The website of the original is http://www.aaa1.co.jp

Hmm, perhaps this is what it is about. A copycat product: The Photo Village :: Black Label Bag :: Black Label Bag Oskar's One Day Bag Mark II called Black Label, which happens also to be a name of Tenba (who doesn't do copycat products)

Indeed, there is a take-off series of bags called "Black Label" and sold by Photo Village (and perhaps others). I ordered an Artisan & Artist Image Smith bag a couple months ago. The A&A GCAM 7200 (very similar to the Oskar Day Bag) is the best "light carry" camera bag I have ever used. Being so smitten, I decided to spring for the larger Image Smith. The folks at Photo Village asked if I wanted the "updated Black Label bag." I assumed at the time it was an A&A product and said sure.

Alas, it's not made by Artisan and Artist. As Thorsten points out, it's a copycat product. It's a pretty decent bag, but at the rarified price levels of A&A, I wanted the real thing. I didn't feel the foam dividers in the Black Label bag were anything like the quality of A&A bags.

Photo Village was very good at exchanging my bag. But people should be warned - there is an unfortunate inference that Black Label bags are made by A&A. They aren't.

You received it after 5 days only?

Did you order courier delivery or was it mailed by USPS?

Hi there Erik,

ordered Monday February 1st, date stamped February 2nd, mailed by USPS first-class International, delivered Saturday February 6th.

USPS and Benjamin C. Newton did a fine job !

Kind regards.

After reading all your posts recommending the Giottos Aegis SP 8250, I developed a healthy appetite to get my own. To my disappointment, I can't find any dealer selling it. They seem to be all out of stock. And B&H charges $50.00 some dollars for shipping a $24.00 item to New Zealand. Not fair '-(

If anyone knows where I could purchase one of these so desirable protectors, please let me know.

Best,

Bixi

Bixi,

Try CameraTechs in Seattle, WA. I ordered mine through them, as I live here and they carry many different varieties in stock. They had to special order the 8250, but I had it within a week or requesting it. They may have ordered more than one, so it's worth a try.

Their website isn't great, but ask for Joe, and he should be able to help you. Best of luck!

Thanks,

I ordered same day so If it works as well to Sweden I should have mine beginning next week.

In Sweden we receive no mail on Saturdays.

Have you put it on the camera?

Anything to be aware of?

I have just got confirmation from bee berman that my b-laïka is in the post, so if nothing goes wrong I shall have it towards the end of this week.

But have anybody been i touch with Luigi lately? I have ordered a half-case from him which he has acknowledged. But I sent him two mails last week that haven't been answered, so i'm beginning to get worried. Has he gone on another trip or have I inadvertently insulted him in some way? Certainly not my intension.

On the other hand, there is no hurry as it seems that I won't get my M9 for a long time yet...

HI There - can you take some pictures when it arrives - I think there have been several changes of colour since those website pictures.

Right, it arrived today.

Already mounted on the M9 without any problems.

The black frame is a little wider than the original and blinds a little away from the original view, probably no problem?

Now, lets see if it will stay on for a while. I understand others have seen it fall off quite fast.

i've owned and sold almost any A&A bag in the mid-size range and eventually ended up with a domke f-3x mainly b/c i found the red inserts of A&A bags are simply an overkill for small RFs and take up way too much space.

as for the black label: from what i've heard, they're produced in NYC (thus promoted by photovillage) from a bag startup that hired away a/the product designer from A&A and basically tries to evolutionize the lineup. the almost exact naming convention is probably a bit bold though.

LOL. Well, I certainly hope that bag startup isn't paying that former A&A product designer too much. Given that the bags are of almost identical design, it's hard to see that there's been much evolution going on.

And I agree - Black Label using the same (rather unique) names that A&A came up with, for the exact same copycat designs, is rather cheeky. The only thing I can think is that A&A never patented/copyrighted them.

I also find it strange that PhotoVillage, which used to be the exclusive A&A distributor in the States, is the firm promulgating the copycat bags. The cynic in me would suggest that their margins are greater on the Black Label bags than the A&A versions.

In any case, the Black Label bags are okay. The copy I examined for fifteen minutes before putting it back in the box was alright. I just didn't think it was as good as the genuine A&A bag. Mostly, I didn't care for the clearly implied inference that the Black Label bag was an updated version, actually made by A&A - an inference emphasized by the exact same model nomenclature.

Caveat Emptor.

You get this automatic e-mail back from him currently, so wait a couple of weeks:

"Dear Friends,I am now back from my 15 days journey. I was PROMISED to be still daily connected to the web, and to may respond most email messages, but the trip organisation did NOT kept his words, sorry!I ask you to be patient, and be sure that NOW I will take care ASAP of all pending orders! Some (FEW) clear remind messages could help my work. I need your name, shipping address and shipping way, item's description, and payment's date and details. Well... I need also some more of your patience ! Greetings, ciao, Luigi"

"The designer used to work for A&A and he went out on his own."

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1234233&postcount=7

I think that if you add two and two together (the A&A website notice and this Photo Village notice) you get that Photo Village used to be the distributor and still owns the .com domain for A&A, and now promotes (and owns?) Black Label.

I'm pretty sure that A&A can sue Photo Village and get their (brand name) website domain handed over.

As for the bags... anyone who are interested in a Black Label Leika M9..?

I got one brand new Luigi half case for M9. Never used. And I got one almost brand new Luigi half case which I had on my M9 for a couple of weeks.

I decided that I prefer shooting with my M9 naked. That's the reason why I'm selling mine. And my husband prefers shooting film that's why he never bought a M9. He only bought the Luigi half case.

Both are black. I will list them in the next few days to sell them. If any interest let me know.

Thanks bixi
