jackart Posted January 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know that Pana GH2 will be first shutter-less cam on the market. Hasselblad told, that their future volks-Hassi will be also shutter-less. I believe that this innovation will change a lot photo equipment future. We get rid of the last mechanical part in the cam. We save in cost, as hi quality mechanics, working in cold and hot is not cheap to manufacture. One important fact is that shutter-less cam is absolutely silent. Excellent tool for discreet shooting, appreciated by many Leica owners. As I understood, new CMOS technology is still quite expensive and used only in flagship cams. Moving parts - especially when they have to move 10,000s of times, often in 1,000th of a second, and be small/light/etc., are always in the back of my mind as a reliability concern. Perhaps I've lived through too many hard-drive failures :-). And I hope I don't have to face a shutter failure of my new (to me) M8u. There's no doubt in my mind that a solid-state shutter that does not compromise speed or quality would be a great innovation - the combination of silence plus, I have to believe, much smaller form factor if you don't have to fit a flipping () mirror would be especially great for street shooting. Yes, it will be expensive at first but - as solid-state technology tends to do - it will become consumer-affordable in a few years - at most. Jaak Oh, that is a very good news for especially some M8/M8.2/M9 users who are concerned about the -compared to analog M - models- "loud" shutter
