...and another one

Been wavering on buying a used M8 and yesterday my local dealer talked me into a very clean "demo" M8.2. It is on it's way here from Leica as I type this.

It will likely wear the Summarit-M 35mm that my dealer has in stock to start with.

So, is it normal for a new M convert to lose sleep, lack concentration, and in general completely fall apart in anticipation? Is life just the downtime between photo journeys?

Welcome to the forum, August. And congrats on your M8.

I have one piece of advice about lens purchases: "Buy cheap, buy twice."

This *isn't* to mean that the Summarit-M won't be perfect for you! It may be! But I encourage you to make sure it's a measured choice from your range of options. You'll have to live with the choice and you'll have your cash sunk into the lens.

This query will bring back all threads about "first lens": http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/gsearch.php?domains=www.l-camera-forum.com&q=%22first+lens%22&sitesearch=www.l-camera-forum.com&sa=Google+Search&client=pub-8364186209947043&forid=1&channel=2480999862&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&flav=0000&sig=DQo5br9nCyuRmRD-&cof=GALT%3A%23940F04%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23CCCCCC%3BVLC%3A940F04%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3ACCCCCC%3BLBGC%3A333333%3BALC%3A940F04%3BLC%3A940F04%3BT%3A000000%3BGFNT%3A940F04%3BGIMP%3A940F04%3BFORID%3A11&hl=en

If you are unsure about your lens options, Reid Reviews is an excellent lens-research location (after you've exhausted lens research options here on the forum, which are free)--Sean has done extensive "real world" side-by-side testing of lenses. Site here: http://reidreviews.com/

Cheers and welcome!

Welcome. And the answer to your first question is a definite yes! Not sure about the second one ... yet!

Congratulations, and welcome to the fold.

You have probably realised by now that you will never have any money again, as all of your spare cash will now be used to buy new lenses and accessories. To make acceptance of this easier, many dealers may offer to have your income directly deposited into their accounts, and they will then issue you with new lenses, as is appropriate. :)

As far as the Summarit 35mm goes, I think that this is a beautiful lens, and I have one almost permanently affixed to the front of my M8. I think that many others will agree that you cannot go far wrong by purchasing one. :)

Yup, you're getting married all over again for the first time and it's gonna be a deja vu experience that you've never had.

Ditto what Nicole says about the Summarit 35mm f2.5. This is one very underrated lens. I use it on my M8.2 80% of the time.

A very good friend and her pride and joy..... Taken with the 35mm and Nikon SB80DX flash (which works great with the M8.2)

Thanks, I appreciate the warm welcome!

Seems that I spend most of my time lately scouring the web for deals on lenses that I imagine would change my life.

Camera should be here tomorrow. I hope you folks don't get tired of my questions and posts!

Oh, and I almost forgot, it's a silver one :)
