hi guys,

I am getting this message even though neither of my cards (sandisk and transend) are locked. I tried removing the battery, cards, waiting, turning camera off and on, mingling and waiting. Finally it worked and camera came back to life allowing me to shoot.

I am pretty sure its not the cards. my m8 is almost three years old and its the first time something like that happened. I still have 4-5 months of warranty (thanks to the upgrade).

I have not come across this problem in this forum. thus far :)

thanks in advance for your advice

I have had this problem twice

The first time it turned out to be a faulty battery even though it appeard to charge ok and looked ok in the display.

12 months later I got it again and it was a faulty charger, on both occasions everything looked ok and it was only because I had 2 chargers that I was able to isolate the problem.

If it turns out not to be the sd cards then try the camera with different batteries / chargers

Good Luck

Pat

It has been on the forum before - it turned out then to be caused by dirty/greasy SD card contacts.

do you think cleaning them up with lets say compressed air should be enough?

thanks

I had something similar recently & solved it by switching the card lock on and off, with come cards you need to watch out for the arrow next to "lock" pointing down. Brilliant design.....

thanks.

i tried what you've said with both cards and there does not seem to be a visible pattern. switching the camera on and off or removing the battery seems to do the trick but its quite annoying. Its not something i want to deal with when its -10 outside and little time to make the shot.

I think that regardless what happens now, my camera is going back to leica nj (before warranty runs out) next time i am in the states.
