markpsf Posted January 25, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted January 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I prefer not to use a half case, will use the grip, and debating between a small Luigi wrist strap and a thin neck strap that can also be used as a wrist wrap around. Â What choice are you making? Â Thanks. Â Mark
Advertisement Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Hi markpsf, Take a look here Strap for X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
grober Posted January 25, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted January 25, 2010 Richard Franiec hasn't announced anything yet for the X1 but I'm hoping he does decide to make a grip for the camera. I have handled the Leica grip on the X1 and think there could be something better. Â -g
jsrockit Posted January 25, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted January 25, 2010 I like Artisan & Artist straps for my Leicas... have you checked them out?
markpsf Posted January 25, 2010 Author Share #4  Posted January 25, 2010 I do know them. They're a little pricey and also excellent.  Which one do you use with your M8 and do you use it as both a neck and wrist strap?  I certainly don't want one for the X1 that is overkill re the size and weight of the camera.  Mark    I like Artisan & Artist straps for my Leicas... have you checked them out? jsrockit Posted January 26, 2010 Share #5  Posted January 26, 2010  Which one do you use with your M8 and do you use it as both a neck and wrist strap?   I use this one:  ARTISAN & ARTIST* ACAM-262 BLACK CORDOVAN LEATHER  http://www.popflash.com/images/products/t-acam262-blk.jpg  and:  ARTISAN & ARTIST* ACAM-280 RED LEATHER STRAP  http://www.popflash.com/images/products/t-acam280-red.jpg  The first one would better for the X1 than the latter. I can't stand wrist straps.
jpmac55 Posted January 26, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted January 26, 2010 I'll likely wait until I see the strap it comes with. I already own a couple so doubt I'll tee up another one. Â Don't forget Gordy's for neck and hand strap options. Nothing plush but style fits the Leica look and he makes very nice, affordable straps. markpsf Posted January 26, 2010 Author Share #7  Posted January 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do know how fine their straps are. My key reservation about all of the A and A straps, except for the silk woven one perhaps, is that they are short as neck straps go.  They would come up to a high chest spot for me.  I like wrist straps re effectiveness in holding the camera and shooting BUT the problem is that I then have to carry the camera in a bag and keep pulling it out or walk around carrying the camera in hand...get's a little tiring.  Mark  I use this one: ARTISAN & ARTIST* ACAM-262 BLACK CORDOVAN LEATHER  http://www.popflash.com/images/products/t-acam262-blk.jpg  and:  ARTISAN & ARTIST* ACAM-280 RED LEATHER STRAP  http://www.popflash.com/images/products/t-acam280-red.jpg  The first one would better for the X1 than the latter. markpsf Posted January 26, 2010 Author Share #8 Â Posted January 26, 2010 Thanks John: Â I may wait too since I know Leica straps are better than most camera companies'. But this passes the time nicely while continuing the eternal vigil waiting for the X1. Â Gordy's look good and I know they're great quality, but how soft are they? I have very easily irritated skin so I don't like straps which will soften over time but don't start out very soft. Â Â Â Mark
jpmac55 Posted January 26, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted January 26, 2010 Mark - you sorta nailed it on Gordy's, takes a little time to soften but wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. A little leather treatment would probably move the softening process along. Gordy's straps are not as plush as Luigi's but costs a lot less. I probably wouldn't consider Gordy's neck strap on a heavier camera but it should work fine on the X1. I've had pretty good luck with his hand strap though. Kind of fun picking thread colors, etc. Â I thought I read Leica will also offer a leather wrist strap for the X1. Â OBIETTIVI LEICA M
jsrockit Posted January 26, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted January 26, 2010 My key reservation about all of the A and A straps, except for the silk woven one perhaps, is that they are short as neck straps go. Â They would come up to a high chest spot for me. Â That is exactly where the camera falls on me... right on my chest. I like that, but if you don't, don't get the straps I mentioned. ptu Posted January 26, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted January 26, 2010 Gordy's straps gave me a inspiration to try to make my own strap using same kind of a method he uses. Copy catting I know but making your own has a huge appeal to me.
jsrockit Posted January 26, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted January 26, 2010 For $27, I just ordered a gordy strap... black with red thread for my M8. I figure you can't go wrong for that price. Â gordy's camera straps
jsrockit Posted February 8, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted February 8, 2010 Ok, so I tried the gordy strap and I think they are pretty bad. Cuts right into my neck. I know, get the neck pad... but I think it's ugly. I'll stick with A&A...
Infinite Posted February 8, 2010 Share #14 Â Posted February 8, 2010 As far as the X1 is concerned, the one delivered with the camera is great. To me Leica straps are better than most aftermarket ones.
