tethered shooting

Do you mean by tethered that the camera is connected via the USB port directly to the PC such that RAW files go directly to the PC? Also is there a possibility to use such a feature on a PC rather than a Mac ? Thanks

Anyone managed to use the M9 tethered? all my attempts failed, I really need that to use the camera professionally. I am on Mac.

I believe I can make this work. I've finally gotten my M9 back from Leica (2 trips to fix a problem with the SD card interface) so I can play around.

I'm pretty sure that Image Capture can do the job. I'll update this thread tomorrow...

under mac OS X 10.6 Aperture 2, Studio Tether and Sofortbild (which essentially all use the same driver to provide quasi-tethered shooting on a Leica) does not work.....or at least not on my system.

Image Capture will connect, but you need to continually refresh and select the images you want to download....not really tethered shooting.

Leica, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release a fast and reliable software to allow M9 tethered shooting on a modern mac.

No question about it. As a 30 year pro who makes his living shooting tethered exclusively to a MacBook Pro with MFDBs, I would welcome the option of doing the same with my M9 and it's sundry lenses. I would appreciate the added creative options the M9 would offer. No, an S2 is not a desirable option for me for various reasons.

After a couple of hours with Image Capture, Automator and USB Prober, its clear that there are some serious problems with Mac<->M9 USB PTP communications. I'm not prepared to blame either side (though I have to note that 3 other PTP devices I have work fine...) at the moment. I've got to investigate the PTP "spec" a little to see if what I'm seeing is in or out of spec (at which point I can assign responsibility (aka blame)).

To my knowledge, Apple updated the USB driver in OS X 10.6 that broke support to 'tether' the M8 using Aperture 2, Studio Tether and Sofortbild.

**NOTE these three software options are not TRUE tethering with a Leica M8. What all these options do is read the SD card after the camera has written the shot to card, and copies to the laptop. This process is slow and taxing on camera battery life, and sometimes not 100% reliable (If you shoot rapidly, you end up missing frames copied onto the computer, but are there on the SD card). Still this is better than nothing, and it would be great to see this quasi-tethering working under OS X 10.6 with a Leica M8/9.
