Advertisement Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Hi geesbert, Take a look here tethered shooting. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted January 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2010 LOTS of threads about this on here. Unless you are using a Mac running 10.4, you will not be able to get it to work tethered. The software does not work on OSX 10.5 or later.
Guest BigSplash Posted January 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2010 Do you mean by tethered that the camera is connected via the USB port directly to the PC such that RAW files go directly to the PC? Also is there a possibility to use such a feature on a PC rather than a Mac ? Thanks
andybarton Posted January 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2010 The software to allow tethering works on a PC, but as I explained above, not on a Mac with the two latest OSs. The OP has stated that he is using a Mac.
wattsy Posted January 25, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2010 Even assuming that the OP can get hold of a Mac running 10.4, does anyone know if the M8 tethering software will work with the M9? This thread might help with finding a workaround.
carlmuck Posted January 26, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 26, 2010 Anyone managed to use the M9 tethered? all my attempts failed, I really need that to use the camera professionally. I am on Mac. Stefan I believe I can make this work. I've finally gotten my M9 back from Leica (2 trips to fix a problem with the SD card interface) so I can play around. I'm pretty sure that Image Capture can do the job. I'll update this thread tomorrow... c.
35mmSummicron Posted January 26, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) under mac OS X 10.6 Aperture 2, Studio Tether and Sofortbild (which essentially all use the same driver to provide quasi-tethered shooting on a Leica) does not work.....or at least not on my system. Image Capture will connect, but you need to continually refresh and select the images you want to download....not really tethered shooting. Leica, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release a fast and reliable software to allow M9 tethered shooting on a modern mac. .a
rsmphoto Posted January 27, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 27, 2010 No question about it. As a 30 year pro who makes his living shooting tethered exclusively to a MacBook Pro with MFDBs, I would welcome the option of doing the same with my M9 and it's sundry lenses. I would appreciate the added creative options the M9 would offer. No, an S2 is not a desirable option for me for various reasons.
carlmuck Posted January 28, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 28, 2010 After a couple of hours with Image Capture, Automator and USB Prober, its clear that there are some serious problems with Mac<->M9 USB PTP communications. I'm not prepared to blame either side (though I have to note that 3 other PTP devices I have work fine...) at the moment. I've got to investigate the PTP "spec" a little to see if what I'm seeing is in or out of spec (at which point I can assign responsibility (aka blame)). c. swamiji Posted January 28, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 28, 2010 Well after hooking up my M9 to My PowerBook G4, running 10.4.11, and using the Leica-Digital-Capture version 1.0.5. IT DOES NOT WORK!
Melampus Posted January 29, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 29, 2010 Under MacOS 10.5.8 (Leopard), StudioTether works with the M8. It's free! I can import directly into Capture One 5.0.1, and I can fire the camera from the MPB. Might be worth a try with the M9, sorry I don't have mine yet . Cheers, -Peter

35mmSummicron Posted January 29, 2010 Share #15 Posted January 29, 2010 To my knowledge, Apple updated the USB driver in OS X 10.6 that broke support to 'tether' the M8 using Aperture 2, Studio Tether and Sofortbild. **NOTE these three software options are not TRUE tethering with a Leica M8. What all these options do is read the SD card after the camera has written the shot to card, and copies to the laptop. This process is slow and taxing on camera battery life, and sometimes not 100% reliable (If you shoot rapidly, you end up missing frames copied onto the computer, but are there on the SD card). Still this is better than nothing, and it would be great to see this quasi-tethering working under OS X 10.6 with a Leica M8/9.
