Advertisement Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Hi steich, Take a look here German tabloid and the X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
h00ligan Posted January 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2010 seems ike a pretty general overview - but thanks for the link!
jaapv Posted January 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2010 It cannot really be called in depth.. And the only two downsides seem to be the price and the lack of a video function. But it is "a camera for the rest of your life"
nhabedi Posted January 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2010 Given the circulation of this "newspaper", I think Leica couldn't be happier about this "review". And it comes at a time when the X1 seems to be actually available.
jaapv Posted January 25, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2010 I agree, but I have my doubt whether the typical Bild reader woud pay 1500 Euro for a camera.
nhabedi Posted January 25, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2010 I agree, but I have my doubt whether the typical Bild reader woud pay 1500 Euro for a camera. Right. But with 3 million buyers and 11 million readers per day (according to Wikipedia and not counting the online edition) even 0.1 percent would be nice already... Not sure what you mean by "typical Bild reader". I seldom read it myself, but see all types of people reading it, from all social, political, cutural and socio-economical backgrounds, from construction workers on the street to the full-suited executive loungers in Frankfurt aiport... Leica must be popping the Champagne after this mostly positive article. They even gave the very high price a positive spin at the end. Also, since it beginns with "The only German camera-maker...", a bit of patriotic pride may also play a role in a few customers...

Dunno if you know the dynamics of such an article, but being fiancé with a (pretty) PR-manager , I can guess it's not that spontaneous... most likely a camouflaged ADV. That Champagne may have been costly too (but this is just a presumption). BTW, my feeling about the camera is positive, don't pull me down, please. Off course it could be that, but imagine what a publicity campaign, with equivalent results, would have cost...? And if it indeed was, the fact that it apears as an unbiased article is an absolute bonus! Win-win situation... "POP! Prost, meine Herren!"
Mauribix Posted January 25, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2010 Off course it could be that, but imagine what a publicity campaign, with equivalent results, would have cost...? That's always a good choice, when you got the media-kit of the Build you know what your investments are on. Whether (as Jaap stated) this is a good (I say as an investment) or not, it has to be determined. Media kits are properly there for that. The cost of such an article is just MY personal conjecture as I specified above, most likely the article did not have any cost at all (apart from PR management). Though the content of the article is probably advised (not to say surely). And if it indeed was, the fact that it apears as an unbiased article is an absolute bonus! Win-win situation... Oh, I know that, I shot a couple of times for such unbiased articles...

nhabedi Posted January 25, 2010 Share #12 Posted January 25, 2010 most likely a camouflaged ADV I thought that as well. On the other hand, the original article which appeared online (and which has now been corrected) stated that the X1 was a full frame camera. One would think that Leica's PR department knows that this is not the case...

One would think that Leica's PR department knows that this is not the case... Oh, well... oversights are just around the corner... I still remember the "image without compromise" statement of the M8 right before the UV/IR filters became a "necessary compromise". BTW, cool to know that it has been corrected. Thanks for pointing this out.

felipe-m Posted January 25, 2010 Share #15 Posted January 25, 2010 Any publicity will do... Exactly my point, especially positive, free, "unbiased", and as widespread as Bild, a winner for/from Leica...
felipe-m Posted January 25, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 25, 2010 I deduce the mindset of the reader from the content... Dangerous... And anyway, "mindset" and pocket-depth are seldom linked
