Neck/Wrist Strap Related

I want a soft strap for my forthcoming M8.2.

I want one that can be used both as a neck strap and also wound around my lower arm and wrist.

One recommendation was to see the one used by Ralph Gibson. Couldn't find that being manufactured anywhere but I found one made by Peter Mayer and have established contact with Peter. While waiting to hear from him as to whether his strap can be easily used as a quasi wrist strap I'd like to hear if any of you are using a strap for the dual purpose and if so how well it works.

Luigi's new thin braided one seems like another possibility.

The Artisan and Artist silk strap looks both perfect and too expensive.

Any input appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks but, apart from the high price, isn't it a little short as a neck strap?

I think 37 inches is short.

How tall are you and where does the camera sit on your torso with that length?

The price is a separate issue, but I'm fairly tall (6 feet) and I think that would place it pretty high.

I just ripped the rubber grip-pad off the Leica strap that's provided with the camera. That makes it easy to loop around your wrist, and it still works fine as a neck strap, or slung across your body.

Not so good on one shoulder because it lacks grip.

Which one did he make for you? Braided? If so how many strands?

I've worked with Luigi on wrist straps.

He now has braided ones so I may write to him to see.

He has three strand and four strand braided neck straps.

Thanks.

Luigi will make one for you exactly as you like. Leicatime.com.

He made one for me that is thin enough to wrap around my wrist and just the right length to use as a shoulder strap.

I've used short wrist straps before, but have never used a combo.

Some swear by that approach.

Others say it's sometimes is too cumbersome.

Flexibility and being relatively thin seems critical...ergo the appeal of the Artist and Artisan one.

But I'd like to hear from any of you who use it that way re effectiveness...comfort...not interfering.

Grazie.

the one he made for me is a thin one stranded strap that is just long enough to use as a shoulder strap but not too long or bulky to wrap around my wrist. It is basically the thinnest strap he offers and I had him make it shorter than he advertises on his site. Works great for me.

Thanks again....

I'll want one a little longer...as a neck strap not to use as a shoulder strap. But on his website he talks only of three and four strand braided straps...unless I'm just not finding it.

I'd love a URL if possible. Your photo also makes the length clear but it's hard for me to see the strands.

Mark,

the strap he made for me is only one strand and I just measured how long I wanted it to be and told him that in an email and what width I wanted it and he made it for me. I also did not want it to be adjustable so I told him that in the email as well. So you could choose the exact length you want and whatever width you want and just email him. He is very easy to work with and a great guy!

Yeh I have worked with him before. I agree, he's delightful to work with. Are you saying that you have the regular thin 12cm leather strap...not the braided one?

I'm leaning towards the braided one but if you're using the regular thin leather one my two questions are just how flexible re the use around the wrist? and how comfortable re softness?

I use his wrist straps on a couple of little cameras that I prefer to use without a neck strap. They're great. But for the M8.2 I want to be able to use it for both purposes.

And right now you're my primary USER REPORT source! ;)

Thanks.

yes mine is not the braided one, it is just a single piece of leather. I just looked at his website again and it looks like he took off the pictures of just the neck straps (I couldn't find it anyway). He used to have a page of just the neck straps and show all the different widths available and the colors. I ordered the narrowest width he made and just had him make it the length I wanted. The leather is soft when you first get it and really softens up nicely with use. It is wonderfully comfortable wrapped around my wrist and because it is thin it doesn't get in the way. Hope this helps!

No cm. ruler! You let me down!;)

I actually had it wrong...12mm not cm....and that is the size of yours. So "bingo".

Short of making up my mind for me no one could possibly have been of more help!

Thanks so much.

Mark,

I measured the width of the strap and it is just under 1/2 inch (about 7/16 inch wide). Sorry, didn't have a cm ruler handy.
