Rexbo47 Posted January 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) This shot is the whole reason I bought the D-Lux 4, so I'd always have a camera with me. Unfortunately the noise level is VERY disconcerting. I've not seen this high a noise level in the 1000 + pictures I've taken since I got it. I have since turned off my in-camera noise reduction since it is apparently useless anyway. I'm used to shooting my dslrs with all the incamera goodies off anyway. Overall I'm very pleased with the camera but this one caught me by surprise.

h00ligan Posted January 23, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2010 How long was that exposure - and is it multiple exposures stacked - HDR style?
farnz Posted January 23, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 23, 2010 Did you shoot it in raw or jpeg? Pete.
adan Posted January 23, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2010 What ISO? Cropped or uncropped?
farnz Posted January 23, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 23, 2010 Rexbo47, this looks suspiciously like sharpening artifacts that can be produced when surfaces (like the sky) are sharpened. Was in-camera sharpening on or did you (understandably) sharpen the shot before posting perhaps? Pete.
Rexbo47 Posted January 24, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted January 24, 2010 It's a jpeg and it is about a 75% crop.. ISO was 80 Exp was 1/1000 @ f 4.5 Actually, the in-camera sharpening and NR were on and probably fighting one another. I've reset them to zero and will test tomorrow against a dark sky as the next storm comes in. Here's a wider shot with a different crop that's less obnoxious. h00ligan Posted January 24, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Damn Pete, you're always on the ball! let us see the next shot - the second one you posted was a beautiful shot - noise or not. Do you use (are you familiar with) Noise Ninja?
Rexbo47 Posted January 24, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted January 24, 2010 Thank you. I've used Noise ninja and Nik Dfine before, as well as the NR in Lightroom. It always seems a compromise between removing noise and prederving details that is difficult for me to find. I'm going to add the latest version of Dfine to my digital darkroom within the next few weeks.
kimmyflorida Posted May 23, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 23, 2010 I am also having a noise issue with interior shots. This was taken at 1/30 sec @ f/2.0, ISO 400, no flash.
