stunsworth Posted December 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rhyl in North Wales last summer. I'm never sure about snaps taken behind people's backs. They almost always smack of cowardice on the part of the photographer. Perhaps I can justify this by saying the subject is the man and what he's doing, not just the man alone :-) Canon 5D, 50mm Summicron, converted using the Alien Skin plugin. stuny Posted December 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 10, 2006 Steve - I think your view is the main way to shoot a scene such as this. MAYBE you could capture his concentration through the glass from the other site -- Perhaps next summer? Regarding this shot, though, very nice detail, contrast, and tones, and I wouldn't want to pass up the chance to capture his body type and tattoss in the scene. I think it it could benefit by cropping the left at the edge of the left-most machine, and the top by two or three centimeters.
Peter41951 Posted December 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 10, 2006 His front was probably less interesting, design-wise:D . Very nice b&w conversion. Thank you.
stunsworth Posted December 10, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks guys. Suart, I did think about the crop you suggested, but decided I wanted a bit of space around the guy using the machine Thanks for looknig.
andybarton Posted December 10, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 10, 2006 I certainly wouldn't want to risk breaking his concentration
dkCambridgeshire Posted December 10, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 10, 2006 OK so you got this shot ... perhaps you should then have considered asking him if you could take a picture of him from behind and close up ... or do it without his permission ... to capture the tatoos .. he is obviously proud of his tatoos and wants to show them off ... offer him a print and take a series of photos . stunsworth Posted December 11, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted December 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Duncan, I understand what you're saying, but I've never been one for asking permission unless absolutely necessary I'm afraid. Too often it destroys the kind of spontanaiety that I like. I guess I prefer to be someone looking in from the outside than someone on the inside looking out :-)
