Black vs Silver - Quick advice appreciated

Have a chance to get a great deal on a used 8.2 that's chrome/silver.

Could get one even cheaper that's all black, but the black paint is already coming off the edges.

I like all black a bit better but I have a hunch that the paint coming off, even if I can touch it up, will be an ongoing problem.

Any thoughts beyond the obvious "personal taste" aspect?

I didn't give much thought to the color because I got a good deal on a used black one but like the silver better. Looks good with either color lens. The only advantage for black is being discreet for street photography. I'm sure it doesn't fool to many people though.

Silver chrome.

* Significantly more durable finish.

* Classic look. (Silver = vintage tourist. Black = "pro" shooter.)

Only cosmetic issue for me is body/lens color matching. Newer lenses from Leica generally come in black. While this isn't a show stopper, I think black-lens-on-black-body looks better than black-lens-on-chrome-body (and forget about chrome lenses on black body). The chrome-lens-on-chrome-body in a tan Luigi case never goes out of style and looks incredibly good. :D

Good luck and cheers!

Will

I like to see a bit of wear and tear, it shows usage and adds character. I'd go with the black one.

You should see my favorite guitars ... look really beat and I love them that way. Fender even sells artificially aged/distressed versions for 2x the price. If you can get real "aging" go for it.

I'd be more careful about the shutter-count.

I like chrome, it looks antique and is great with chrome lenses.

Here is my chrome family.

I know some of you may just enjoy listing your preferences so if so....carry on. I'm enjoying the comments.

But I did make a decision yesterday. The basis was that the seller had one all black and mailed me photos to show that the edges showed wear to the black paint and the finish below showing. I figured that even if I bought an 8.2 that looked perfect, eventually this would happen with normal use. The only reason I leaned towards the all black was thinking that for street shooting it would be less noticed. The more I thought about it though I realized that would be a very minor variable, if at all. Your comments also got me reexamining the traditional style and I decided I'd be happy with it. Additionally, the same dealer had one available at a great price in mint condition.

It's on its way!

Thanks for all the input.

Great forum re helpfulness and professionalism. Feels like a family...a functional one that is.;)
