carbonadam Posted January 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone had trouble importing dng files to Lightroom from the M9? I will connect the camera and import the pictures. The scroll bar moves to the end, apparently finished, and then I see that only 1/2 my shots have imported. WTF? Advertisement Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Hi carbonadam, Take a look here Lightroom importing problems & M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
amedick Posted January 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2010 If you are using a mac, have lightroom 2.6 in 64 bit mode, you could have this kind of behavior. The solution is to work in 32 bit mode, downgrade to 2.5 or move up to Lightroom 3 beta. If you are not on mac, another issue. Good luck John
MartinEB Posted January 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2010 Hi There is an earlier thread which discusses issues with LR 2.6 crashing with M9 files. The recommended solution is to use a version 2.6RC - available from the Adobe website. You will also find in that thread that one M9 user lost his files while importing directly from his camera into Lightroom. A better approach is therefore to download to a folder on the computer and then separately to import into Lightroom from there.
MartinEB Posted January 21, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2010 Apologies..(not quite up on how to do this properly!)...the link is: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/109812-lightroom-2-6-released-but-suddenly.html

carbonadam Posted January 21, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted January 21, 2010 I have has this issue before I upgraded. And it's not freezing up. It's just does not import everything. Cam and lightroom are fine and no crashes. I upgraded to LR 2.6 yesterday but like I said it was happening in 2.5 too.
bybrett Posted January 21, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) LR 2.6 RC + card reader should do the trick. LR has to import everything which is in the folder on your computer.
Guido Posted January 21, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 21, 2010 The M9 has a firmware problem with USB connections on Mac (also causes strange behavior when using LR 2.5, or even the Finder). If on a Mac, use a card reader until Leica gets this sorted out.
cheewai_m6 Posted January 21, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 21, 2010 i don't have an m9, but i've found with all digital cameras, it's more reliable and faster to use a card reader to copy the files onto the computer, rather than connecting from the camera. ChristopherGrant Posted May 1, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 1, 2010 I realize this is an older thread at this point, but in case this helps anyone, these 'failed imports' still occur in: Lightroom 2.7 M9's firmware 1.116 Snow Leopard 10.6.3 This is while linking the camera directly to the computer via usb. I realize there are other methods or workaround, but thought I'd offer this up just as some info.
bybrett Posted May 1, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 1, 2010 The advice still stands - use the Adobe recommended version of LR for M9. And use a card reader. Cheers.

chris_tribble Posted May 2, 2010 Share #13 Posted May 2, 2010 +1 - a card reader costs pennies. It's the way to transfer images. There's no point in using direct connection + it's a problem for mac users.

There's no point in using direct connection + it's a problem for mac users. It used to be a problem for some mac users. I have no problem at all using Image Capture for downloading via USB. K-H. Rick Posted May 2, 2010 Share #15 Posted May 2, 2010 While at the Road Show we were specifically told the choose Mass storage under USB connection in the menu if we were using a Mac. This was emphasized. Is this part of the problem/solution that is being discussed here?
k-hawinkler Posted May 2, 2010 Share #16 Posted May 2, 2010 While at the Road Show we were specifically told the choose Mass storage under USB connection in the menu if we were using a Mac. This was emphasized. Is this part of the problem/solution that is being discussed here? Rick, I came to the M9 from shooting Nikons. There one uses PTP to remotely control a camera via thetering and uses Mass storage just to download images. Consequently I tried Mass storage with the old FW and it never worked reliably with any software. Then somebody pointed out that the combination of PTP and Image Capture worked reliably on a mac. I have used that since and never had a problem. Once I loaded the new FW, I found that Mass storage and Image Capture also worked reliably. So, that's what I have been using. I have not tried any other software with the new FW, so, don't know about that. Best regards, K-H.
Rick Posted May 2, 2010 Share #17 Posted May 2, 2010 Thanks. I've never used the USB in my M8 or M9 so, I didn't know if this was in part the problem people have been having. Always a card reader for me. It seems so much smaller, faster, and it frees the camera for the next formatted card (always reformat every card after downloading).
