Lightroom importing problems & M9

If you are using a mac, have lightroom 2.6 in 64 bit mode, you could have this kind of behavior. The solution is to work in 32 bit mode, downgrade to 2.5 or move up to Lightroom 3 beta.

If you are not on mac, another issue.

Good luck

Hi

There is an earlier thread which discusses issues with LR 2.6 crashing with M9 files. The recommended solution is to use a version 2.6RC - available from the Adobe website. You will also find in that thread that one M9 user lost his files while importing directly from his camera into Lightroom. A better approach is therefore to download to a folder on the computer and then separately to import into Lightroom from there.

There is an other solution: use LR 2.6 RC which is available again and has no issue in 64 bit mode either.

Cheers,

Ario

  • 3 months later...

I realize this is an older thread at this point, but in case this helps anyone,

these 'failed imports' still occur in:

Lightroom 2.7

M9's firmware 1.116

Snow Leopard 10.6.3

This is while linking the camera directly to the computer via usb. I realize there are

other methods or workaround, but thought I'd offer this up just as some info.

and that is exactly what causes the problems...

+1 - a card reader costs pennies. It's the way to transfer images. There's no point in using direct connection + it's a problem for mac users.

It used to be a problem for some mac users.

I have no problem at all using Image Capture for downloading via USB.

While at the Road Show we were specifically told the choose Mass storage under USB connection in the menu if we were using a Mac. This was emphasized. Is this part of the problem/solution that is being discussed here?

Rick,

I came to the M9 from shooting Nikons. There one uses PTP to remotely control a camera via thetering and uses Mass storage just to download images. Consequently I tried Mass storage with the old FW and it never worked reliably with any software. Then somebody pointed out that the combination of PTP and Image Capture worked reliably on a mac. I have used that since and never had a problem.

Once I loaded the new FW, I found that Mass storage and Image Capture also worked reliably. So, that's what I have been using.

I have not tried any other software with the new FW, so, don't know about that.

Best regards, K-H.

Thanks. I've never used the USB in my M8 or M9 so, I didn't know if this was in part the problem people have been having. Always a card reader for me. It seems so much smaller, faster, and it frees the camera for the next formatted card (always reformat every card after downloading).
