Clandrel Posted January 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I need some advice... I have a 50 Summarit and an Elmarit 24 ASPH. I'm about to buy a used 35 Summilux, but the same guy has a 50 Summilux too. So, I was thinking of getting the 35, but is wondering if I should get the 50mm instead. And sell my Summarit. What are your thoughts on this matter... Will the gap between my 24 Elmarit be too close to the 35 lux? Best C
Advertisement Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Hi Clandrel, Take a look here Advice - Summilux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
digitalfx Posted January 20, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 20, 2010 How much is he asking for each? The 35mm seems like a good fit considering you have the 24 and 50. Are you aware of the backfocus issues some have reported w/ the 35 lux? Rumor has it they are releasing a new 35mm Summilux very soon. I own both the 50mm and 24mm Summilux lenses and am ready for a 35mm, but I think I'll wait on the new version.
Clandrel Posted January 20, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted January 20, 2010 Both are priced at $3000, with UV/IR filter and Passport. The 50 is chrome, the 35 is black. That price is OK in Norway, where the 35 retails at $5700!
digitalfx Posted January 21, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2010 Assuming you can test out the lens prior to purchase, personally I would go with the 35mm as it fills a gap between your two lenses as opposed to duplicating what you already have. That said, the 50 lux is one sweet lens.
Clandrel Posted January 21, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 21, 2010 Well, I went for the 35... I think it's a wiser choice. But I go crazy reading all the forum members stories of backfocusing... I must not read no more:) All in all, I trust Steve Huffs review, and if it's his favourite glass on the M8, I guess it's good enough for me too:) By the way, when did Leica start to produce the ASPH and when did they start the coding? digitalfx Posted January 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 21, 2010 The coding started at the M8 release.
don_panko Posted January 21, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) You made the right choice as the 35mm lens is the one that I keep mounted on the camera while the other focal lengths are special purpose lens, in my opinion.
